Summary

Gripping and packed with twists and turns, this stunning thriller will make you question whether we can ever really trust the ones we love....

What if your whole life was based on lies?

When Joe Lynch stumbles across his wife driving into a hotel car park while she's supposed to be at work, he's intrigued enough to follow her in.

And when he witnesses her in an angry altercation with family friend Ben, he knows he ought to intervene.

But just as the confrontation between the two men turns violent and Ben is knocked unconscious, Joe's young son has an asthma attack - and Joe must flee in order to help him.

When he returns, desperate to make sure Ben is OK, Joe is horrified to find that Ben has disappeared.

And that's when Joe receives the first message....

Decent By The Numbers Thriller

Lies is actually a decent piece of entertainment. It's a domestic thriller set in London in which a relatively benign incident escalates into a supremely scary ordeal for husband and father of one Joe Lynch. It has an easy writing style and good pace to it which make it one of those novels that's thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. There are plenty of twists and turns and I'll be the first to admit I didn't see the big twist at the end coming - though thinking back I wonder if I ought to have done!

The book is very well narrated by Leighton Pugh, though at the time of writing the Audible.co.uk website lists it as being Mark Meadows in error. He has a good range of character voices and is very easy to listen to. The only thing he doesn't do convincingly is the beep on answer phones :-)

There's nothing hugely original here but it is an entertaining thriller. The final confrontation does get all a little bit Scooby-Doo as some of the plot points are explained but not so bad that it ruined it for me. Worth a try.

Disturbing brilliant Debut

Where does Lies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a disturbingly real debut novel from TM Logan,
Just when they are minding their own business and going about their daily lives as parents BOOM !!
Beth and Ben come along
I'm saying no more other than dont try and second guess the storyline just read the book and take in it.

I read this and then listened to it on audiobook Brilliant.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lies?

The revelation which I hadn't guessed

Have you listened to any of Leighton Pugh’s other performances? How does this one compare?

My first listen to Leighton Pugh very easy on the ear

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

disappointed

Couldn't relate to the main character, his thought process, mindset or decisions. The twist was OK but didn't make the previous story worthwhile. all the stuff about the dangers of social media seemed to be written for the over 60s to help them understand how it works. Disappointed, this one wasn't for me.

Dull.

This book is not a page turner. It is boring pedantic and the characters are irritating and unbelievable. I found my self rolling my eyes with every cliche. The women were portrayed as silly narcissistic and behaved in a totally unrealistic manner. As for Joe. He is a Totally unsympathetic character who got on my nerves all the way through. In the end I didn't care enough about plot, characters, outcome to listen to this tedious offering. Waste of money . It's been done so much better so many times.

Very Intriguing

Good story that gets you caught up and wondering what is happening. It's great to be from the main characters viewpoint and making connections with them. Keeps you guessing

Kept me listening

Enjoyed this book, the narration a little annoying at times, especially his voice for the child character Wills but all in all a good listen.

A Gripping Read

I found this very book very gripping but at the same time frustrating. It keeps you going right until the end, chasing Ben and wondering how the mystery will be solved. But the twist is exceptional. Enjoy.
