Summary

In Life Beyond Pain, courageous Kenyan human-rights activist Flora Terah reveals her tough journey to hell and back, in overcoming the tragic loss of her only son, 19-year-old Te, who was murdered in an attempt to silence his mother. A fierce defender and advocate for human rights in Kenya, and an award-winning activist and speaker on her arrival in Canada, Terah temporarily lost her voice as she descended into a deep depression.

In this brutally honest account, Terah details her fight to conquer fear and despair, and reveals how her faith, and her friends, helped her find hope and redemption. Along the way, she amuses with tales of culture shock, enlightens with stories of egregious abuses of human rights, including female genital mutilation, and ultimately makes a convincing case for mental illness to be embraced with empathy and understanding in her adopted Canada.
