About this listen

The new novel by the best-selling author of When All Is Said.

From the best-selling author of When All Is Said comes a delicious new novel about a young woman who can hear the dead - a talent which is both a gift and a curse.

Jeanie Masterson has a gift: she can hear the recently dead and give voice to their final wishes and revelations. Inherited from her father, this gift has enabled the family undertakers to flourish in their small Irish town. Yet she has always been uneasy about censoring some of the dead's last messages to the living. Unsure, too, about the choice she made when she left school 17 years ago: to stay or leave for a new life in London with her charismatic teenage sweetheart.

So when Jeanie's parents unexpectedly announce their plan to retire, she is jolted out of her limbo. In this captivating successor to her best-selling debut, Anne Griffin portrays a young woman who is torn between duty, a comfortable marriage and a role she both loves and hates and her last chance to break free, unaware she has not been alone in softening the truth for a long while.

Great novel. Shame about the narration.

I love this author and the narration of her first novel ‘When All Is Said’ was amazing but this time around I found the narration almost intolerable. Nicola Coughlan was rushing through the words, tripping over many of them, and often sounded like she was reading out ingredients on the side of a cereal box. Awful. Amateur.

Good, but not as good

I came to ‘Listening Still’ from Anne Griffin’s wonderful ‘When All Is Said’. Having re-listened to the latter, I was surprised to find I already had ‘Listening Still’ in my library and had forgotten listening to it. Says it all, really. Perfectly enjoyable if you go along with it, but not in the same league as her first book. Nicola Coughlan’s narration suits the character.

The story with twists & turns

Loved the story of the book. Also loved how the writer weaved a character from her other book when all is said i.e. maurice hannigan into the book. That was genius.

Another beautiful book.

When I listened to ‘When all is said’ by Anne Griffin, it became one of my favourite Irish novels & Anne instantly became one of my favourite Irish authors.
‘Listening still’ is her second book & its is as beautiful as her first. Her writing is so emotive, that it’s easy to see all of the characters in my imagination. The narration, by Nicola Coughlan is absolutely fantastic & brings every word to life.
I can’t wait for Anne’s next book

Just wonderful

I’d read ‘when all is said ‘ and loved the believability and humanity of her characterisation so was champing at the bit to move on to this book — a kind of sequel but only in a glancing way . Add to this two fantastic narrators and you have pleasure personified .

A nice gentle read

Really enjoyed this book. Found it just flowed along nicely. There was a twist towards the end that I didn't see coming. Apart from that not a great deal happens, expected more with someone who can talk to the dead. it seems the dead only talk about normal stuff. Will certainly read more by this author.
The narration was good and clear, and the Irish accent was lovely.

Loved this book

Great story well narrated. I loved the idea that the dead have a last chance to leave messages before they finally depart.

Nothing to "when all is said"

Disappointed with the the followup to "when all is said.". Found the main character irritating, nothing seemed to satisfy her. story lingered on without any substance. listened to the end and thought what was that all about.?
