Summary

THE MASSIVE NO.1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

In this inspiring, uplifting and heartwarming memoir, world-renowned veterinary surgeon Professor Noel Fitzpatrick explores his journey to becoming The Supervet.

Growing up on the family farm in Ballyfin, Ireland, Noel's childhood was spent tending to the cattle and sheep, the hay and silage, the tractors and land, his beloved sheepdog, Pirate, providing solace from the bullies that plagued him at school. It was this bond with Pirate, and a fateful night spent desperately trying to save a newborn lamb, that inspired Noel to enter the world of veterinary science - and set him on the path to becoming The Supervet.

Now, in this long-awaited memoir, Noel recounts this often-surprising journey that sees him leaving behind a farm animal practice in rural Ireland to set up Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey, one of the most advanced small animal specialist centres in the world. We meet the animals that paved the way, from calving cows and corralling bullocks to talkative parrots and bionic cats and dogs.

Noel has listened to the many lessons that the animals in his care have taught him, and especially the times he has shared with his beloved Keira, the scruffy border terrier who has been by Noel's side as he's dealt with the unbelievable highs and crushing lows of his extraordinary career.

As heartwarming and life-affirming as the TV show with which he made his name, Listening to the Animals is a story of love, hope and compassion, and about rejoicing in the bond between humans and animals that makes us the very best we can be.

Written and read by Noel Fitzpatrick.

Excellent

Well written, well read, a little over acted and over emotional in parts. Noel Fitzpatrick is clearly a very committed and genuine human being. I enjoyed the book very much. Would definitely recommend.

The brightest star

It's been the 3rd time I've listened to your story Noel, and won't be the last! When it gets too much in this society, I find peace in your voice, in your words, in your existence. Because you made it impossible not to know there is someone out there who understand my feelings for the animals and feels the same. You were able to put these issues into a prospective where it brings back hope into our lives. These 2 words don't say enough, but THANK YOU!!! 🤗💙

Let He Who Has Ears, Hear...

Prepare to laugh, cry, learn from and ultimately be challenged by Prof Noel, aka The Supervet. His story is as inspiring as his passion and desire to help all animals. Pin your ears back, this is *not* yet another celeb bio but the real life of a real man with a real message.
His own words read in his lovely Irish brogue; a comforting voice, easy to listen to but not without insightful, intelligent and deeply thought-provoking challenges.
Watch the programme, read the book, hear him speak and/or listen to the book. The man speaks a world of sense and the world needs to have the sense hear.

(NB I'll never see Wolverine without thinking of Hugh Jackman, now I'll never see either without thinking of Prof Noel!)

The super vet

What a wonderful book. I just couldn’t put it down. It made me cry, laugh and smile. I am so full of admiration for Noel, he’s worked so very , very hard to get where he is today and he’s been so open about his private life too. I hope Noel full fills his dreams and not just in his professional life but in his personal life as well

Brilliant

Professor Noel Fitzpatrick is an amazing super vet, listening to his life story, it has had me gripped from start to finish.
I find Noel’s accent enchanting, he makes the book; if another person was telling his story, it would have been good; but with Noel it’s just brilliant.
But then he is an actor. I have laughed and cried! But mostly as we all know what comes over is Noel’s love for animals...
Noel if you read this, I’m sure you will be in love again when the time is right. Your gorgeous!!!
And if I ever meet you and have a hug I WILL not tap you on the back 😂😂🐩🐕😘😘🥰🥰🥰
