Story
Dead bodies are piling up for Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel. Usually when a serial killer is on the loose, the pressure would be building to find the perpetrator, but the victims are all hardened criminals themselves. The national media can't believe their luck with an apparent vigilante on the streets while Jessica's new boss seems grateful someone else is doing their job for them. But things aren't so straightforward when forensics matches blood from the apparent killer to a man already behind bars.

It was 2:47 a.m. when Chief Inspector Alan Banks arrived at the barn and saw the body of Keith Rothwell for the first time. Only hours earlier two masked men had walked the mild-mannered accountant out of his farmhouse and clinically blasted him with a shotgun. Clearly this is a professional hit - but Keith was hardly the sort of person to make deadly enemies. Or was he? For the police investigation soon raises more questions than answers. And who, exactly, is Robert Clavert?

Summary
They think they are safe at home. Someone knows better. When a body is found in a locked house, Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel is left to not only find the killer but discover how they got in and out. With little in the way of leads and a journalist who seems to know more about the case than she does, Jessica is already feeling the pressure - and that's before a second body shows up in identical circumstances to the first.
How can a murderer get to victims in seemingly impossible situations and what, if anything, links the bodies?

Excellent book plenty to keep you enthralled
Where does Locked In rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've just started listening to the audio books so it's high on my list, but it's such and easy way to do the ironing and be whisked away into the story
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jessica as I can totally relate to her! She portrayed as being human which is nice, making mistakes and then rectifying them
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Ones with Jessica and Dave
Any additional comments?
Kerry Wilkinson is a very good story teller, leaves you wanting to now what happening next

Simply Brilliant!
There is a previous reviewer on here who marked this book down because s/he didn't like the way it was narrated; said that it was read like a mother reading to a child! I wish my mother had read to me in that manner! My solution was to play the sample to see if I could handle the voice, style and, story. I'm glad that I did!
If you are a fan of the Peter James 'Roy Grace' novels, then, in DS Jessica Daniel, is a Manchester equivalent, in terms of style, procedures, characters and complexity/simplicity of story.
Many previous reviewers said that they didn't have a clue during the collection of evidence, who the perpetrator could be. It was that well written. The irony is, that even the author told us about it: misdirection! Simply Brilliant! Enjoy!

A bit formulaic but well narrated.
Any additional comments?
Somehow I guessed "whodunnit" early on but have been proved wrong in the past. It is possible I have read too many thrillers and wonder exactly what it is that makes a thrilling read? The big difference in this book was that the police chief turned out to be supportive and gave praise. I liked the main character although, again, the feisty sweary girlie cop theme could wear thin. I know this is a first of a series but don't know if I would try another one. But then again.................

A good yarn
Would you listen to Locked In again? Why?
Yes, I would. Mainly to spot the clues!
What did you like best about this story?
Easy to listen to. Liked the characters. Good story.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The ending was good. By which I don't mean that I was pleased to get to the end!!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Enjoyable.
Any additional comments?
I agree with others that the grammar could do with a tidy up, but the story rolled along well. Already on the second one and enjoying that too.
I liked the narrator.

entertaining but a few flaws
I enjoyed the story and really liked all of the characters, but there were a few flaws in the story, certain things that the police didn't check when they really should have, which made it seem a bit unrealistic to me. I enjoyed the fact that although there are murders, it's not too scary, nor too gory.

What did you like best about this story?
The characters were very well drawn. I really felt that I came to know Jessica as a strong, but real career woman.
Have you listened to any of Becky Hindley’s other performances? How does this one compare?
This is the first performance by Becky Hindley for me. She was excellent!
Any additional comments?

Great listen!
I really enjoyed this book. The narrator was excellent. She really brought the main character Jessica to life. Self-deprecating, sarky and frankly, not the smartest detective, Jessica is not sweet or particularly likable character but she is believable and very entertaining. The plot was good, not very intriguing but it still kept me interested to the end. The story does offer and excellent depiction of Manchester and British culture through the characters in the book. It was spot on, showing a really appreciation for the humour in ordinary British life. This is likely my first of many Jessica Daniel novels.
