About this listen

London Orbital is Iain Sinclair's voyage of discovery into the unloved outskirts of the city.

Encircling London like a noose, the M25 is a road to nowhere, but when Iain Sinclair sets out to walk this asphalt loop - keeping within the 'acoustic footprints' - he is determined to find out where the journey will lead him. Stumbling upon converted asylums, industrial and retail parks, ring-fenced government institutions and lost villages, Sinclair discovers a Britain of the fringes, a landscape consumed by developers. London Orbital charts this extraordinary trek and round trip of the soul, revealing the country as you've never seen it before.

Great book, made better by being read by the author

New fan of Sinclair. Have enjoyed the couple of books of his I’ve listened to on here and he’s good at reading them.

Pure Poetry

My first thought was that Sinclair’s narration was dull and monotone, but by the time I’d finished the book, he had become an old friend I wanted to hear again. This book is a long form poem, the prose is quite unlike a normal book with a plain narrative. Sinclair’s words paint pictures in the mind. You have to really get it to fully appreciate it. I listened a second time and picked up much that I’d missed, I’ll undoubtedly listen a third. This is probably my all time favourite Audible book.

Terrible when Authors cannot properly read their own books

Such a good book
Such a horrible interpretation.
Iain Sinclair's reading of this beautiful book makes it monotonous and unbearable. He ruins it. Please, buy the printed version of it!

The reading is awful

Such a shame that the reading is so dull and monotonous, as the subject matter is quite interesting. If only the author had got someone else to read it :-(
