Summary
One of the most pessimistic Russian writers, Leonid Andreyev (1871¿1919) describes in this novel (inspired by an actual event) the last night in the lives of seven people condemned to death. They are two criminals and five terrorists found guilty of an aborted attempt against the life of an important bureaucrat. They come to the conclusion that even if they failed, they were successful: they go to gallows as brothers. It is a novel that describes human sentiments and it is ultimately an impressive song of faith.
