Summary

The heart-wrenching follow-up to Bad Idea, a romance of star-crossed lovers in the city that never sleeps.

Six months ago, I gave my heart to a girl. Beautiful, kind, and sexy as sin, she's the only person who saw past my record or the color of my skin. Who ever saw me for me.

She loved me enough to let me go, let me leave this city to find my own path.
But without her, I drift, lost without direction. Without me, she spirals, desperate for connection.

I gave my heart to a girl, and she gave hers to me. But love shouldn't hurt this much.

Contains mature themes.

DIFFICULT TOPICS HANDLED SENSITIVELY

Kayla's life unravels in this book. She makes a lot of bad decisions. However, as this book is so sensitively written, I could understand why she does what she does at every juncture. The story seems slow in places, but it's absolutely necessary to show Layla's manipulation and descent. GREAT follow up. Can't wait to hear the final book!

Infuriating

I was hoping this story would progress better, and turn out better for these two characters.
I had hoped their separation, and reconnection would be far better. For Nico to really value Leyla, as we were led to believe, he really started to turn into a gutless douche. The encounter with his flat mate with benefits on the beach, when he was with Leyla (which he was planning on rekindling with Jesse before he left) made me instantly go off him. He didn’t stand up for Leyla there, and just keeps drawing her back to be hurt by him again. Leyla is at fault too for allowing it to happen. I cannot understand why they kept doing it to each other and themselves. Leyla was intensely hurt by their situation, but kept going back for more. It was completely tiresome. Got as far as the virtue signalling systemic racism part, and I’m done.

Far too angsty, with immature characters who have no respect for each other or themselves, and continue to drag out a very toxic relationship. I’m sure they will sort it all out nicely in book 3, but I won’t be wasting a credit on that book.
Extremely tired of it now.
