About this listen
Published in 2020, this is one of the most intimate, touching, and humorous travelogues you'll ever listen to.
Of the many Camino books out there, Lost on the Way: A Journal from the Camino de Santiago is, perhaps, the only one that is like an autobiographical travel memoir, a Spain travel guide for hiking in Spain, and a Camino de Santiago guidebook for the Camino del Norte, Camino Frances, and the Camino Primitivo.
When Blake Farha was unexpectedly laid off, he knew the time had finally come to walk the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage stretching all the way across Spain. Armed with a cheap notebook, a ballpoint pen, and the ugliest pair of shoes he’d ever owned, he set out to fulfill a dream and to get a grip on the demons that have plagued him his entire life.
In this uncensored travel journal, Blake chronicles his 600-mile sojourn on foot through the Spanish countryside and invites listeners deep into the inner workings of his heart and mind.
Day by day, mile after mile, the Camino, the pilgrims he meets, and the time for reflection bestow upon him countless insights on depression, anxiety, self-worth, and finding peace.
Vulnerable and humorous, evocative and earnest, his journal is a window into a lost soul on a journey to self-discovery; a portrait of gorgeous landscapes, human connections, and those questions which don’t seem to have any answers.
Like the thousands of tiny yellow arrows that mark the way to Santiago, these heartfelt entries remind us that hope often hides in unexpected places and stand as a testament to all who listen to them that there’s nothing wrong with getting lost on the way.
Whether you're interested in the Camino de Santiago, traveling in Spain, or walking almost 600 miles in the shoes of a lost soul looking for answers, scroll up and purchase this powerful tale of introspection and wanderlust to join Blake in getting lost on the way!

Growing
Wanted it to be full of the not so good bits as well, the grit of the days and nights, loved the fearless honesty of the book.

A very personal journey of discovery shared openly
At times I wondered why Blakes referencing distance and time on the Camino was important to him. As he came to the end of his Comino, Blake shares that that makes his journey of discovering himself a very personal experience openly.

different view of the walk
I found this book about the Camino different to the many others.
This carried many of the same stories as other books.
The author brings also another aspect.
There is less of the walking as it is a journal that worried me when I read other reviews.
This is a story of a personal mental battle , I could link to the problems and enjoyed the narrative, made me look at myself.
Thai chi and meditation not over emphasised but important to me.
The friendship the journey was there.
One of the few that doesn't constantly talk about blisters. He walked in trainers for a good reason.
Worth a read ... where as some books are almost fictional .. this wasn't.

Searching
As an unadulterated journal of Blake's time on the Camino it is different from others I have read and for that I found it interesting. His journey focused more on his inner mental struggle and the Cognitive Behavioural methods he employs to manage it, which he shares in a general way. I missed the depth of narrative of how these struggles manifest themselves. Only at the end did he touch on, a little more of why and what he had chosen to share.
I enjoyed his easy reading style but would have preferred that the occasional sound effects were left out.
Finally, I am a little concerned that given none of his compatriots experienced bed bugs, he may not have been finding them in every Albergue he visited but spreading them! Eek!

One of my favourite Camino books
Really enjoyed its pure honesty. I've walked the Camino before and wanted to read some more books before I walk my second. Really helps to make you feel normal for not understanding the vast emotional swings you have during, upon the end and after.
