About this listen
No one wants to believe murder can happen in their neighborhood.
Murder is nothing new for Sheridan Hendley, amateur sleuth, or her husband, Detective Brett McMann. Still, shots fired add a layer of tension to babysitting and being neighborly. This time the murder is too close for comfort. There are no witnesses and no verified identification of the victim, not to mention the car accident prompting Sheridan to be next door. Questions are raised about an investment company and business practices. Could a kitten have the key to the motive and killer?
As Sheridan works with the police to identify the murdered victim, she discovers investment scams that target the elderly with fake promises and visits a towering conglomerate in the middle of nowhere. What kind of company requires employees to sign a nondisclosure agreement, arranges for them to live in a designated subdivision, and plants listening devices in their homes? Was the victim killed because of what she discovered? As more information is revealed, Sheridan is in danger.

Lovely book and cover.
This book is just as lovely as its cover. I love the main characters and their interactions, and the story is thoroughly entertaining and weaves together nicely. Jeanne Pilgrim Mayo’s narration is first-class.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

Good Cosy mystery.
This is the first book in the series I have listened to and although it's book 6 it does work well as a stand alone. Christa Nardi is a good author and tells interesting stories with a little padding but not too much. Jeanne Pilgrim Mayo narrates well and brings the books to life. You feel that you know pretty well what is going on but there's a small twist at the end which can be a surprise. Highly recommended.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest and voluntary review.

really enjoyable and interesting narration
I really enjoy the Sheridan series, perfect blend of life with mystery that works well. This can be read/listened to as a standalone but works so well as continuing the series. I so recognise the teenager traits when comparing to my daughter the same age.
I did find some of the male voices distracting though.

Well written entertaining mystery
An excellent well written, character driven cozy mystery with many elements, some serious and some light. When Sheridan 's near neighbour is killed, and another is involved in a traffic accident she and Brett become involved with a secretive company, rescue a kitten, pack for a holiday and deal with threats and intimidation. I like these stories that mix normal family life and mystery with great characters who have a good relationship with each other. A clean mystery suitable for all that can be read as a standalone. Jeanne Pilgrim Marlow is a excellent narrator, easy to listen to with a good range.

Paws down a good mystery
I enjoyed this book. There is so much going on in the story that you won't want to stop listening, from solving a murder, identifying a mysterious victim, helping out at a dog shelter, rescuing a kitten and the main character still manages to shop for a holiday. It was a nicely balanced out story that doesn't solely focus on the mystery and everyday home life plays a big part in it too. This means its a character driven story with a lot of familiar face but does work as a standalone book. This mystery was so interesting, all the problems of not knowing who the victim was to her very strange and unusual job. I can't wait for the next book.
Teenage Maddie gets a despite phone call from a neighbour needing a babysitter. Her step mum Sheridan, concerned about what is wrong joins her. They arrive to find the husband has been in a car crash and she needs to dash to the hospital but before she goes anywhere they hear gun shots coming from next door. The police, Sheridan's husband, is called and a body is discovered. Nobody knows the woman, let alone who would want to kill the woman who kept to herself and the first order of the day is fine out who she is. Her only friend seems to be a newly brought kitten. If only the fur ball could lead them in the right direction because her boss is stone walling them. Sheridan must assist her husband in tracking down clues to her killers identity and in doing so is nearly involved in a drive by shooting. With somebody watching there every move, asking questions proves to be hard.
I liked the narrator. She tries to give each character there own voice, there is one voice that I think she makes sound older than he should be but the rest are good.
