Summary

A Londoner enters a world of guns, bombs, and assassinations until the Special Branch of the police and military intelligence step in.

Frank’s years as a peaceful football fan and socialist end abruptly when he turns to hooliganism and British nationalism. In the menacing drinking clubs of Belfast, he takes orders from prominent Loyalist paramilitaries. His crimes escalate, until the media and authorities uncover his secretive and dangerous existence.

Brilliant Book

Very insightful book. Good to hear a true life account of a journey from football violence to active loyalism.

Good book shame about narrator

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Good insight into the football casual scene and the Loyalist scene.
However, it really needed a British narrator.
No harm to the geezer but you can’t have someone narrating a book if they can’t pronounce football teams like Celtic and Feyenoord.

Enjoyed the audiobook.

Enjoyed the audiobook. Only disappointment, is as a Londoner it would have been good to hear a Londoner voice narrate. That is just me being picky.

An interesting look into how you never know what’s down the road

I enjoyed listening to Franks story and how he went from a very run of the mill, working class boy growing up in London during the hay day of football hooliganism and life in London during the second half of last century.

What could have been an easy listen and a book that I would have replayed multiple times was however ruined by the fact that the narrator is American and this book is written by a Londoner with the language to match. It’s really hard to listen to for too long because it doesn’t fit right and the slang words are miss pronounced

American narration

This would have been better if the narration had of been done by a Londoner!
