Summary

A new collection of stories, including some that have never before been seen, from the New York Times best-selling author of the Silo trilogy

Hugh Howey is known for crafting riveting and immersive tales of boundless imagination, spawning millions of fans worldwide, first with his best-selling novel Wool, and then with other enthralling works such as Sand and Beacon 23. Now comes Machine Learning, an impressive collection of Howey's science fiction and fantasy short fiction, including three stories set in the world of Wool, two never-before-published tales written exclusively for this volume, and 15 additional stories collected here for the first time. These stories explore everything from artificial intelligence to parallel universes to video games, and each story is accompanied by an author's note exploring the background and genesis of each story.

Howey's incisive mind makes Machine Learning: New and Collected Stories an addictive and thought-provoking selection of short works - from a modern master at the top of his game.

Great collection of thought provoking stories

Totally unexpected - was an Audible recommendation. Really interesting collection of short stories that were engaging and well read. Highly recommended for anyone who likes stories that make you think or see the world from a different perspective. Much less to do with the maths and science of machine learning or AI

Bite size sci-fi

I liked the plagerism simulation story best but this collection has a lot of good gems. I was shocked to find the ending of another book of his in this collection. Probably one of the fastest "read" books I've gotten.

Best anthology

I don't usually enjoy short stories as much as I enjoyed this collection. I describe all of why, but Hugh Howeys explanations to each piece is important.

Some of the best SF I’ve read for many years

I was unaware of Hugh Howey until stumbling over this anthology, but he has one of the most original voices I’ve heard for a long time. He combines contemporary concepts and ideas with insightful commentary between pieces into some of the most refreshing thinking I’ve encountered in SF for many years. Well worth the exploration.

A great listen

if you like thoughtful considered sci-fi, you'll love this. Brilliant tales that build to a really satisfactory whole, though can be enjoyed individually.

Intense and intriguing. Sci-fi at its best

Aside from Hugh Howey's Wool series, I knew little of his other works and even less about the author himself.

This collection of scifi short stories has plenty of drama, intensity and intrigue. Afterwords by Howey himself make each story that much more thought provoking and I would highly recommend if you are looking for something to dip in and out of, or binge in a day. Excellent all round!

A great collection

Not every story is world class but enough that it’s more than worth the effort and the money!

Love this author

Great book of short stories. Always enjoy his work and love the fact he linked a few stories back to Wool.
