Summary

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes.

A do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries-old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a little while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is: something I never would've thought possible.

As my new life begins, a couple of things become immediately clear: Forty isn't too old for adventure. Not by half. It is too old to take crap from anyone, however, or care what people think.

I had no idea how incredibly freeing that could be. Or how dangerous this new life would become.

I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

Fantastic story

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Nicole Poole

What a fantastically refreshing story. The lead character is a woman in midlife who’s happy with the woman she is becoming after her husband leaves and her son goes off to college, Jacinta is looking forward to a new chapter in her life but certainly wasn’t expecting or prepared to be thrown into a magical inheritance or the trouble that comes with it.
Great characters with lots of humorous banter keeping this a fun and interesting read. I look forward to seeing how Jessie copes in her new role.

The narrator does a great job with the different characters and enhancing the enjoyment of the story.

Great narrater

My first audio book, took me a few mins to get used to listerning and not reading. It was a great book but the narrator made it for me, with diffrent voices for each character it was super easy to sit back , close my eyes and enjiy the story. Think audio is the way for me now , cant belive how much i enjoydd it.

Absolutely hilarious

I absolutely loved this book. Brilliant writing and performance. You must listen to this to get the full benefit of the book. It’s hilarious. I was driving around laughing like a lunatic listening to it. Can’t wait for book two on audible. I’ve already pre-ordered it.

Wasn't sure what to expect with this story

Ended up loving it! I don't know why I doubted Ms Breene. She's quickly become one of my favorite authors.

Love the story

I like the story and the characters are well written however the narrator really needs to learn how to pronounce words she hasn't come across. Niamh is pronounced neeve not nayev and Niamh is one of the main characters so you hear that word a lot. There are other words too that the narrator should have been told how to pronounce before this was released. I do, however, plan to get the whole series as its nice to have an older woman who's relatively happy in her own skin as the main character for a change.

Enjoyable enough

Great book, loads of fun. Had me laughing out loud.
The narrator leaves something to be desired, fine for the most part but for the love of all that is holy Niamh is pronounced Neeve not Nee-ave and when one of the main characters is called Niamh it grates on ones nerves to hear it mispronounced 500 times throughout the book. Easily remedied as well, all the narrator had to do was look it up instead of butchering a fairly well know Irish name.
Most everything else was lovely. Breene is a master.
