Summary

What else did they have to do with their days? They ambled around casually. From time to time, they paused, not because they were out of breath but to admire a tree, a house, the play of light and shadow, or a face.

While taking a much-needed rest cure in Vichy with his wife, Maigret feels compelled to help with a local investigation, unravelling the secrets of the spa town's elegant inhabitants.

Sense of place

Simenon 's settings gives the reader the right atmosphere for his books so that feel you know place and want to go there.added to that a great mystery to enjoy.

pourquoi cette histoire n'est-elle pas lue en français?

Enjoyable sense of place and character, as usual, but a slightly ridiculous plot, when it is finally revealed. Great reading again from Gareth Armstrong.

Why is this read by a stiff upper lip Oxbridge Brit not un francais?

Why can not we have a French person reading what is a so so French series of stories. Sorry, no offence to Mr Armstrong but the English stiff upper lip approach loses a dimension. What a lost opportunity.
