About this listen
Eleanor Trewynn is a widow of some years living in Port Mabyn, a small fishing village in Cornwall, England. In her younger days, she traveled the exotic parts of the world with her husband. These days she's retired and founded the local charity shop. Her niece, Megan Pencarrow, transferred nearby and was recently promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant. Perhaps the only downside is that she is now working for a DI who doesn't approve of women on the police force and who really doesn't much approve of Megan's aunt Eleanor, as she is something of a thorn in his rather substantial side.
All of these factors collide when, the day after collecting donations, Eleanor and the vicar's wife find the dead body of a long-haired, scruffy-looking youth hidden in the stockroom of the charity shop. Then they discover that some donated jewelry thought to be fake is actually very real, very expensive, and the haul from a violent robbery in London. Making matters more complex, the corpse found in the storeroom is apparently not one of the robbers.
Carola Dunn's Manna from Hades is a confounding Cornish case of daring theft, double-cross, and a wily older woman confronted by a case of murder most foul.

Charming
I really enjoyed this book. It was a welcome change from the blood and guts variety. The characters are interesting and the narrator excellent. A good listen if you fancy something more calming.

Long and smothered with minutiae
The book is a description on Cornwall life, scenery and a bit of a story that drones on via exhaustive descriptions of paths, roads, trips, food, etc until it finally ends demurely in a bit of a heap.
Recovering from COVID, I more or less dozed through it so that the lack of a challenging plot was immaterial.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This is the first Carola Dunn Cornwall based book that I have read/listened to and I really enjoyed it. The story was full of gentle twists and turns and the characters well drawn. The narration was very pleasing and suited the characters in the story.

Seriously underwhelmed
I read this Audiobook because it was set in North Cornwall, where I live. I suppose it could be called a murder mystery, though it was more a chattering of (mostly) a dithering old darling and dog and her friends set, apparently, in the late 1960s. It could have been more enjoyable had it not been for the narrator, Wanda McCaddon who read the story as if it were for the old BBC children's programme, Listen With Mother, complete with a jaunty air and received pronunciation. Unable to differentiate between male and female voices, her narration especially irritated me in terms of accents - the Cornish speech pattern is very distinctive yet absent from those Cornish folk resident in this Cornish county, whilst a police doctor born and raised in Manchester but who still had some relatives in the sub continent, was given a. very strong Indian accent by Ms.McCaddon. And he was not alone. I waited constantly for any signs of Cornish folk appearing. And waited. And waited...
An all right story to while away a spare nine hours if there is nothing better to do: the saving grace being it is currently available to download for free with the Audible Plus programme.

Simpler times for murder by the sea!
A reminder for the tine before the digital age and the wastefulness that grips most these days all weaved around a burglary and a murder or at least a poor young dead boy.
