Summary

After more than 20 years in exile, Mallon de Wolfe - formidable, handsome, and with a shard of ice where his heart should be - is returning to Dartmoor. A place vast, barren, and perilous. A place where secrets refuse to remain buried.

Haunted by scandal and the shame of her bloodline, the newly widowed Countess Rosseline is determined to secure her status through marriage, even if it means resorting to deceit and entrapment.

Lord Wulverton has vowed to conquer the betrayals of his youth but the appearance of the mysterious countess threatens all he holds dear.

Can either escape the poisonous dominion of their past?

Master of the Moor is a gothic romance, drawing upon the dark legends of Devonshire which inspired Conan Doyle's "Hound of the Baskervilles".

An historical romance, inspired by the works of Daphne du Maurier and Victoria Holt, for listeners who enjoy tales of intrigue and suspense, and the promise of love's redeeming power.

Heat level: Passionate

Historical Romance

An intriguing and entertaining historical romance set at the turn of the 20th century. With a gothica feel and set in the West County moors, the author quite successfully captures the mood, atmosphere and romance of that period. Mallon is the estranged, absent Lord returning home, and Genevieve the recently widowed woman looking for security and love.

I really enjoyed this audiobook, it was an excellent story that had a good mix of drama, chemistry, misunderstandings and romance.

Mastering the Master!

I enjoyed this story very much as well as the way each of the characters' personalities and ideas on love and life kept on altering depending on what was happening.
I especially loved the way Countess Rosseline manipulates Mallon de Wolfe and others around her. She is just so good at it!
Mallon of course isn't an innocent and he comes across as a very caring personalty who is also a deliciously, sexy hunk.
I loved this story which has just the right amount of passion, darkness and mysteries to make it interesting and entertaining.
Elspeth Cyprian, the narrator did a good job with her narration and has some interesting 'voices' and accents which she uses very nicely.
I listened to the audiobook version and my unbiased review is given voluntarily.

A hot and passionate gothic novel

Master of the Moor brings together romance, love, passion, intrigue, mystery, a handsome and darkly charming gentleman, a high spirited and strong willed lady and all set to a gothic backdrop.

Lord Wulverton and Countess Rosseline's relationship is highly charged creating conflict and friction while they are both hiding from a difficult past. As always with Emmanuelle's books the sex fits in with the plot, it is never dominearing. It's hot and passionate but is balanced by a deep connection between characters.

The story has a strong plot and characters with a wonderfully traditional gothic feel, it it clear that a lot research goes on alongside the author's writing.

I bought this book, as I had already purchased the Audible version, and I must say that I enjoyed every word.
Lord Mallon de Wolfe was travelling back from abroad where he had served in the army and this was his first time home for 20 odd years. He caught a train to London . But the ticket he had bought to get him to London was not valid for the private carriage he had organised. Then he found that it had been given to another passenger. So he was really annoyed with the conductor, also with the woman passenger who had his carriage. As her maid had her own carriage just down the corridor. But the lady wouldn’t share with her servant as that was unheard of . So the Lord thought he might have to sleep in the corridor. The conductor left them and she signalled for him to sit down..He gratefully did. Then she had her way with him. When they awoke in the morning she found he had gone. The Lord was rushing home as his Father had died and he was left the ancestral home and the title of Viscount. Well the story goes on and on. The house is on the moor and it is very creepy. When he arrives home
He discovers that the lady from the train is a guest in his house. So after many trists and arguments, her
Fancy for his young nephew who was the heir of the Lord. Their relationship changed. I heard the story and have now read the book and I will probably read it again, as it is full of stories of their former lives and their families and mystery and romance, with fear and tragedy. and sorrow and excitement. This book is excellent and makes you feel as if you don’t want to put it down. I am very pleased to have heard it being read and to read it myself . It is very descriptive and very romantic book, and very exciting. I loved it. x

Love!

In Master of The Moor, Genevieve, a strong daring, independent woman finds her plans upended by a chance meeting which has her questioning herself. I enjoyed this historical romance, a genre I have neglected of late. Combining two strong leading characters works really well and I was easily carried along by the narrative. The narrator, Elspeth Cyprian, has a fabulous French accent, and tells the story well. 💖💖💖💖
