About this listen
Vampires, ghosts and death itself - from the international bestselling author of The Atlas Six, Masters of Death by Olivie Blake is a spellbinding queer fantasy.
'Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent' - Chloe Gong, author of These Violent Delights
This book is about an estate agent. Only she’s a vampire, the house on sale is haunted, and its ghost was murdered.
When Viola Marek hires Fox D’Mora to deal with her ghost-infested mansion, she expects a competent medium. But unbeknownst to Viola, Fox is a fraud – despite being the godson of Death.
As the mystery unfolds, Viola and Fox are drawn into a quest that neither wants nor expects. They'll need the help of a demonic personal trainer, a sharp-voiced angel and a love-stricken reaper. And it transpires that the difference between a mysterious lost love and a dead body isn’t nearly as distinct as you’d hope.
'If you enjoyed Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens, you will adore this book'- Starburst Magazine

I liked it! Unique.
A great story with lots of threads expertly brought together. I liked its uniqueness and the tone reminded me of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ type humour - this would equally make a good movie.
It does have a lot of characters, all with backstories and essential parts to play, and so this makes it a challenging audiobook. I did have to rewind a couple of times to remind myself who was featured in the dialogue. But I think the narrator does a brilliant job of trying to give every character a different accent and personality.
Keep going! Is my recommendation.

Great story, bad narration
I love the story, and it’s the only reason I’m still listening to it. But the narrator is driving me nuts. His female and American accents sounds like he’s doing an over exaggerated mocking impression and it’s really hard to get past it.

Different
I enjoyed the book, it was different and felt original. There were a few bits I struggled to visualise, mostly dealing with beings and worlds unlike our own

Wonderful narration but hard to get into
I’ve never read or listened to any of this author’s works and I know she is highly recommended. This book is certainly an intelligent piece of writing and has strong worldbuilding. The audio narrator is also excellent. I personally found the story to be too dialogue-heavy (at times it felt like there was just a lot of back and forth between characters and nothing else), and the characters became too annoyingly cryptic for my liking.

Utterly surreal
Great narration from Death. Then swapping POV to third person narrative. Enjoyed how different this was. It’s all about the game of wills. The characters are enjoyable and the story isn’t told linearly so it keeps you on your toes.

Disappointing
I loved all the other books by the author but really couldn’t get into this one.
