Summary
Three things about Justin Roberts:
- He’s a bully.
- Our relationship is toxic.
- He’s the only one who knows my secret.
A year ago, I woke in the morgue with a note in my hand telling me that I’m a vampire. I need blood or I’ll start killing people. Lucky for me, Justin has been sneaking into my bedroom and feeding me blood for a year, and the only price I have to pay for it is putting up with his cruel snipes and my unwanted feelings for him.
I just can’t figure out why he keeps coming back.
But all that changes when I’m offered a full-ride scholarship to Justin’s mysterious school, the elite Blackburn Academy, where I might finally learn about vampires. About myself. All I have to do is pass the grueling entrance trials, and the scholarship will be mine. Problem is, Justin doesn’t want me anywhere near his elite school and rich friends. He’s vowed to sabotage me.
Justin may have been feeding me blood for a year, but he doesn’t know who he’s up against.
But, Blackburn Academy is more than it seems. I’ll be facing more than what Justin Roberts alone can dish out.
Will competing in the trials be the new beginning I’m hoping for, or will it end my undead existence?
This book was previously published under the title: A Bite at the Cherry (Bite Me Series) Blackburn Academy: Entrance Trials. Recommended for 16 and up.

Decent story, not quite fully realised.
This was... fine. I think the characters were aged up due to the sexual freedom as everything else seems very high school - cliques, uniforms, classes. A lot of the themes feel quite juvenile for the supposed maturity of the characters.

Intriguing and paced
Midnight Secrets developed and revealed itself well, the perception of how Rita Stradling chose to bring her characters to spotlight, was done well.
There was not the plot twist of a typical plot twist, but rather an unveiling.
The reveal and reaction of January being a dhampir rather than a vampire had me like “Wha…?” and realised, aah; yeah, I did not see that coming, and I have read a lot, I mean a lot of supernatural books based on vampires and other supernaturals. But as the story of January unravelled, I forgot about the books I read.
A lovely and original story, and look forward to the next adventures in book 2.

Wonderfully original story
This is a brilliant start to a new series with lots of unexpected twists. It captured my attention from the start and I couldn't stop listening. The narration is beautifully performed.

Amazing
I listened to this book in one sitting. The story had me hooked within the first 10 minutes and I couldn't put it down.
I loved January's character and the tension she had with Justin. I'm looking forward to learning more about this world and how January fits into it once she's actually at the academy.
Definitely check this book out.

Vampires don't sparkle!
This was the beginning of a new vampire series in the academy setting, it was a different approach from what I'm used to, but incredibly good, with very versatile narration. January, is just trying to survive being a new vampire, Justin offers to help, despite being a jerk. January is being hunted, but it seems Justin is trying to protect her and sabotage her attempts to enter Blackwood Academy. This was an amazing read/listen ,i was hooked from page 1, I can't wait to start book 2.

Fresh take on vampires
While the first chapter or so took me awhile to get into, this book quickly progressed into one that I didn’t want to end. The take on vampires and powerful societies is fresh and enjoyable.
