Not all about Avery

I want to say I enjoyed this book and on the whole I did but I think the mystery got lost with all the the arguing that went on in the book and most of it was unnecessary. I thought Avery had grown over the series but she is back to her annoying self in this book and picking fights when she doesn't get her own way or being mean when she doesn't like something, are you sensing it's all about Avery? Even she can't come up with one thing that she does for her boyfriend. The big saving grace was the fact that she really cared for the missing girl and not just for the story. When Avery wasn't arguing or sulking about being taken off another case, the mystery was good but again another dysfunctional family that liked to argue at the expense of a child. I can't believe I am saying this but thank goodness for Avery and her quirky stubborn streak. It is entertaining and I will be listening to the next book as I do on the whole like the characters and the banter, it's just the arguing that gets tedious.
Avery is certain she doesn't want children and going shopping with her very pregnant best friend, for baby things just confirms things for her. Then a woman comes into the store shouting someone has kidnapped her step daughter and Avery's investigative reporter instincts start tingling. Something is very wrong. The father of the missing girl is currently in battle with his ex wife over custody of the two children and he doesn't like what the ex wife tells Avery and gets her taken off the case when she prints it. Can Avery get her story back and find the missing girl? Or will her relationship woes with Elliot get in the way? A teenage girls life is on the line but all the adults seems to worry about is who looks good on tv. Can Avery workout what is troubling her over this case?
The narrator is okay but her whiney voice probably makes the character more annoying than she should be. I have heard her read a number of books for different authors and normally I think she does a good job but I don't think this series is for her.
