We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Another fantastic book from Shawn Inmon
As I've said before this isn't a truly great work - it doesn't reach the level of his best book (both to my mind and the author's): The Redemption of Michael Hollister. It is however a shamelessly escapist adventure that, while it barely deserves the lable "Science Fiction" is nevertheless well worth the read (or listen).
Warning: Spoiler ahead in the paragraph following this one. I do kinda wish that I had read (ok, listened to this book in the order in which it happened within the timeline of Alex Hawk, that is f what? Chapters 17 and 18 of book 5, Prince of Kragdon-ah.
Ok so now my little niggles:
1. It'll be kinda sad if the family that help them escape this world are not seen in subsequent books. Their exit was a little abrupt.
2. You are the sum of your experiences and so the stealing of everyone's memories was an horrendous thing to do. Also it seemed as if it was without the consent of even his own daughters!!! I just can't square that sort of behaviour with the otherwise noble Alex Hawk. It might have been dressed up as done to "protect" his forces but that didn't wash for me. There was certainly no need to do that to his daughters and what sort of friend does that. This element of the story pained me.
3. Ok so this is more about the other books in the series than this one which was actually not as bad - but i found the addition of "eh" and "ah" at the end of all the names irritating. I understand that Shawn Inmon wanted to make the world more immersive somehow with its own distinct language but it just got on my tjts.
4. A herb that basically makes people immortal and no one wants to take a cutting or sample on which to the form jane sequencing and what about the sample the ape people gave him to put in his bag? Could that not have been used on Alex's ribs, injoured shortly after he was given this gift? Could Alex have perhaps suggested the herb to the woman in her floating invalid chair ⁶
5. could the woman who had advanced healing tech not of used it on herself? And what about the poor mute giant? Could his mute problem have at least been assessed? Could his painful joints not at least been treated? For such a loyal follower and such an important character (as an intimidating presence to deter aggression and as the only one who can lift Alex's dog 🐕) it's shameful how little Alex seems to care for his ailments.
I could write more but try as I might I can't concentrate adequately at 4am and even this snippet is taking waasay tooo much thinging.
Overall a solid 75/100.

I love this world and these characters
Just like having to watch A New Hope again after seeing Rogue One, I had to go back and listen to Chapter 18 and 19 of Prince of Kragdon-ah, after listening to this book. Knowing the fate of some of the characters ahead of time was a bit heart breaking, but I'm glad here there will be a book 7.
While I enjoyed this, It's not as good as the books before it in the series imho, but Jonathan Mcclain is as good as ever.
More of this and less redemption stories of serial killers please.

Honesty
I’ve listened to all the books in this series and some of the other. What comes through loud and clear is that you know parts of the Bible. I can give you your freedom of choice we all have;however, it is nauseating and really rather shallow of you the way you take pot shots at Christian’s at every opportunity. It’s why I won’t listen to anymore Middleton books. Your Kragdon-ah stories are interesting and engaging and I enjoy them. I’d like to suggest that they’d be just as good without taking swipes at us every chance you get. When you belittle our faith and dis our God, you’re only digging your own grave deeper. We, as Christians can see right through what you’re doing whether it’s on purpose or not. I would just ask you to STOP IT. You’ve made your point and it’s enough already. Leave Christians, our faith, our God all out of your stories. Otherwise, losing the entire listening audience made up of Christians May hurt you in the long run. You are losing many of us with every single swipe you make. Please, just leave us alone. We’re not hurting you and we’re sick of your jibes. Thank you for listening

By the seat of his pants
I love how IN his other novels he just writes what comes to him, this one is definitely different and I tell you, I couldn't tell a difference it was that wonderful, Let me explain, I thought he wrote this at the same time as what novel 5 was written and it was so long they said, 'Heck fire, You have a whole other novel in itself from the entering of the mist till they come out of the mist'. It was THAT well written and it was like it was his 'Norm' in writing. until I heard Author's note, then I was floored.
Very well written and the Narrator has these characters voices and personalities 👌 👏 down pat! thru the WHOLE series. Can't wait for #7 to come out.
I also go and check out the songs he listened to. Wow, Yep, Got the right songs with this novel!
A Wonderful read, Great narrative and A huge thank you for the creativity and putting it on Audiobooks, as it finds it's way into my library to enjoy my Novel fix while rollin'... nope, No straight jacket required 😀 😉. Keep them coming!
