Summary

David Mitchell and Robert Webb offer you no less than the magic and wonder of the theatre. Yes, the roar of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd has been captured in this however-many-times-you-think-about-buying-it-in-a-lifetime entertainment opportunity. A whole host (i.e., more than nine) of comic characters, from incompetent space heroes to alcoholic snooker commentators, from aspirant cricketers to deluded vagrants, are brought to life on the magnificence of the stage in a way that is both intimate and awe-inspiring: a bit like sex with a monarch.

missing visual gags

Wasn't designed for only audio so some jokes missing as they were visual. Some good sketches, including ones familiar from their shows on bbc. Many fell flat for me though.

made for tv

Anyone who watched the TV show will get a kick out of this because most of the sketches are the same ('are we the baddies?', 'numberwang' etc).
Sadly this is literally the audio from the live show and so there are some visual only sketches which do not work in audio form (once or twice is fine but there are multiple throughout).
As a free audiobook it's nice for nostalgia but not much more.
Get this if you liked the show or have patience to get through some of the visual sketches.
Try something else if you're paying or haven't seen the TV series.

Bit of a mixed bag but some of the “hits”.

Not bad, but if a mixed bag but great as it was free! I’m just not a fan of the snooker commentators though, about as funny as a fart that follows through.

Maybe it was funnier if you could see it?

I’m a big fan of Mitchell (less so of Webb), and so I’ve heard all these sketches before, apart from one that really annoyed me as it repeated through the performance.

If this was a live performance, I think the audience got more out of it than I did, as they could see the visual gags alongside the radio sketches I’d heard before.

If I’d paid for this, I would return it to Audible. As a feeebie, it is not a good introduction to Audibles free content.

Brilliant

Enjoyable and funny sketches from the talented Robert Webb and David Mitchell - almost as good as their tv shows

Not suitable as an audiobook

Not recommended - suitable for TV only as the jokes are mainly visual so it doesn’t work as an audiobook

Not at all funny

I enjoyed Peep Show, this was not at all of that standard. An awful lot of shouting and no comody.

Dull

Doesn’t work very well as an audiobook. Material comes across as very dry. Not funny.

Gosh, this has aged badly

The running gag about a man wanting to kill his wife? Yeesh. I guess a lot has changed in 15 years.
