Summary
It is the year 1814 and Miss Maelys Mitchelmore finds her entry into the highest society of Bath hindered by an irritating curse. It begins innocuously enough, with her dress slowly unmaking itself over the course of an evening at the ball of the season, a scandal she only narrowly manages to escape.
However, as the curse progresses to more fatal proportions, she realises she must seek out urgent assistance, even if that means mixing with the most undesirable company-and there are few less desirable allies than the brooding Lady Georgiana Landrake-who may or may not have murdered her own father and brothers to inherit their fortune.
If one is to believe the gossip, she might be some kind of malign enchantress.
Then again, a malign enchantress might be exactly what Miss Mitchelmore needs.

Excellent narration
The narration for this audiobook was really excellent. unfortunately I didn't end up enjoying the story as much as I had hoped at the start. An intriguing premise but I didn't love it.

Saved by a brilliant narration
I have to confess i struggled with the paperbook version of this, i just couldnt get into it despite desperately wanting to love the story - the dangers of being a mood reader 🥺 A friend suggested trying the audio version and I am so glad i did. i loved the way the narrator bought the story to life, she made a wonderful Puck and simply made the story sparkle.
The story itself (once i got into it) was the most wonderful concoction of regency romance, fairy meddlings, sapphic love, and vengeful ancient gods. It twists and turns so much, and in seceral places caught me completely off guard! If you love Jane Austen mixed with mystery and curses this is a must read. Cant wait to read (listen to) the next one.

Fab story but the narrator makes it brilliant
I would happily listen to any story with this narrator (and thoroughly hope to read more)! The mix of the supernatural and romance and regency is heaven.

Fun story, well-narrated
I think I overhyped this book to myself because it sounded exactly like the sort of story I'd love, so I ended up merely liking it. I enjoyed that it was narrated by an immortal, and I think the actor was a good fit for the role. The story didn't quite suck me in as much as I thought it would, but it's still worth a read.

narrator is the only reason I finished this book
The narrator is the only reason I was able to finish this book - and even then it took 2 months to finish - and i have a very long commute. Nothing really happened. I wonder if the author ran out of ideas, and both curses were very under whelming, and there was no real sense of peril. It's a shame as the world this is set in is quite interesting. I just wish the story wasn't so boring. I found myself not really caring about the characters at all other than Lizzie and Maggie, who are really side characters.
