Story
Cherry, Maggie and Rose are mother, daughter and granddaughter, each with their own hopes, dreams and even sorrows. They have always been close, so when, in a moment of impulse, Cherry buys a gorgeous but run-down pub in the village she grew up in, it soon becomes a family affair. All three women uproot themselves and move to Rushbrook, deep in the heart of Somerset, to take over The Swan and restore it to its former glory. Cherry is at the helm, Maggie is in charge of the kitchen, and Rose tends the picturesque garden that leads down to the river.

Story
Late summer, 1963. Fresh from London and a recent cookery course, Alexandra has always loved a challenge. Which is why she now finds herself standing outside an imposing chateau in Provence. Waiting for her inside is three silent, rather hostile children who are to be her charges for the next month. They will soon be more friendly, she tells herself. All they need is some fun, good food and an English education. Far more of a challenge though is their father - an impossibly good-looking French count with whom she is rapidly falling in love.

The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves. There are the friendly 'Hellos' when commutes coincide and the odd cheeky eye roll when the wine bottles clank in number seven's wheelie bin, but it's not exactly Ramsay Street. The dilapidated community centre is no longer the beating heart of the estate that Becky remembers from her childhood. So the new pottery class she's helped set up feels like a fresh start. And not just for her.

Summary
A sweeping family drama of old secrets and new beginnings....
Even happy families have their secrets....
Since the sudden death of her husband, Naomi has steadily rebuilt the life they shared in the village of Tilsham by the sea.
Her eldest daughter, Martha, is sensible and determined - just like her father was - and very much in control of where her life is going. If she could just get pregnant with her husband, life would be perfect.
Willow, the youngest, was always more sunny and easy-going, yet drifted through life, much to her father’s frustration. But now, with charming new boyfriend Rick, she has a very good reason to settle down.
The three women are as close as can be. But there are things Naomi has kept from her daughters. Like the arrival of Ellis, a long-lost friend from way back, now bringing the fun and spark back into her life. And she’s certainly never told them that her marriage to their father wasn’t quite what it seemed….
The Sunday Times best-selling author Erica James returns with this gloriously compelling tale of mothers and daughters, secrets and love.
Critic reviews

Another enjoyable family saga from Erica James
An enjoyable listen to an Erica James exploration of family relationships. Mother, daughter, father daughter, mother son, all of 5hem here and mainly set in Sussex by the sea. The narr at slightly jarred with Tom’s northern accent attempt, but otherwise a worthwhile purchase.

Disappointed
I started to listen to this book and within the first couple of chapters I knew I’d “read” it before!
I was able to preempt the story line and what was happening to each of the characters. This was really disappointing as you buy these books in good faith.
So I listened to the entire book again despite recognising everything within it right down to the ending! How does this happen?
I’d have rated the storyline higher than the three stars if it wasn’t already familiar. The performances were irritating though. No need to give the initially thought weaker character such a whining voice!
First timers to this will most likely enjoy it.

Superb performance. Warm and engaging story
Juliet Stephenson read this book wonderfully. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, relatively gentle but with enough grit and plot line to draw you in. Well drawn characters and a very evocative setting.
