Summary

Abby Lamb has done it. She's found the Great Good in her husband, Ralph, and together they will start a family and put all the darkness in her childhood to rest. But then the Lambs move in with Ralph's mother, Laura, whose depression has made it impossible for her to live on her own. She's venomous and cruel, especially to Abby, who has a complicated understanding of motherhood given the way her own, now-estranged, mother raised her.

When Laura takes her own life, her ghost starts to haunt Abby and Ralph in very different ways. Ralph is plunged into depression, and Abby is being terrorized by a force intent on taking everything she loves away from her. With everything on the line, Abby must make the ultimate sacrifice in order to prove her adoration to Ralph and break Laura's hold on the family for good.

Unhinged Delight

Not what I was expecting but so much better. A domestic horror that drags you in to Abby's mind.

Great narration but did find it a little strange at first to have an English Narrator for a Canada set book which didn't really develop much setting.

It was aite

Motherthing by Ainsle Hogarth

Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a very peculiar read! Sometimes I was wondering what the hell I was reading 😂 There were parts where it was giving Exorcist vibes and others like Gone Girl? I really don’t know how to explain it though. There were times where I had to skip through the constant profanity, which was odd as I swear too (trying really hard not to) but the repetition and tone it came across as was just creepy af.

It was definitely a fun read. Very cut throat at some points and the dark humour was really good. I went into this book not really knowing what it was about but just recognising the cover and seeing the mixed reviews of it and thought, why not? I can now understand the mixed reviews as I don’t know if I love it or hate it. But regardless, the story was a mess and masterpiece at the same time!

The ending however, was chaotic and messed up! It was a decent ending but now I can see why it was circulating in the book world. But was it enough to be a five star read? No. If only that theme of cannibalism and horror ran through the entire book and not just the last couple of chapters and the rest of the book being a bore to get through 🤧

The MC Abby was an annoying, unhinged and peculiar in my opinion. The constant whining, dark energy and lack of remorse for a mother in law who literally unalived herself. Of course it’ll be on your conscience as you pry her wedding ring off of her dead hands 🙃 idk, guys this book was weird. Fun, but WEIRD. Let me know if you’ve read this and what your opinions are x

Amazing performance by Harrie Dobby

A wild ride with a standout narration - definitely the best way to experience this book.
