Summary

Mr. Mani is a deeply affecting six-generation family saga, extending from 19th-century Greece and Poland to British-occupied Palestine to German-occupied Crete and ultimately to modern Israel. The narrative moves through time and is told in five conversations about the Mani family. It ends in Athens in 1848 with Avraham Mani's powerful tale about the death of his young son in Jerusalem.

A profoundly human novel, rich in drama, irony, and wit.

if you , or anyone you know wants to know about Jerusalem......

this historical novel more than any modern work I have read, successfully captures the essence of the Holy City.

masterfully crafted, Yehoshua s work takes you down the dark backstreets and through the ancient cobblestones, to the Western Wall and the overarching and wonderful smell of baking Pita bread.

with a marvellous sense of history the late and lamented Yehoshua drifts from the British Mandate, a marvel for the Ottoman, Polish pilgrimages, Armenians and much much more.

with a pseudo prophecy into what was to be the future we hear of Jews and what was to be the fate of "Jews that have forgot they were Jews. a must read modern classic. a little known sapphire, fresh from the new Jerusalem.

marvellous. thank you audible.
