About this listen
A serial killer is playing a terrifying game of life or death with his victims. After he captures them, a countdown begins. He marks the time by sending clues to the whereabouts of the women he has taken in three disturbing images: alive, tortured, dead.
In a race against the clock, East London Detective Ruby Preston must play the twisted killer's terrifying murder game and decipher the clues before more women die...but this isn't the first time the police have seen such a sickening crime. The notorious Lonely Hearts Killer, Mason Gatley, was put behind bars 10 years ago for murdering six women in exactly the same chilling way.
Desperate for more information, Ruby persuades her boyfriend, Nathan Crosby, to use his criminal connections to set up a dangerous meeting. Because to catch this killer, she needs to think like one.... But the closer Ruby grows to the dark and charming Mason Gatley, the more worried her team become. Is Mason really helping her catch the killer? Or is he lining Ruby up to be his next victim?

Loved it !!
I really enjoyed this book, with it's twists and turns, it kept me gripped. The narrator was great, but I still think she needs to brush up on her Jamaica accent 😂 I hope this is not the end of this series.

Another great Detective Ruby Preston story
I don't know how writers like Caroline Mitchell keep coming up with interesting, gripping and addictive stories, book after book, year after year. All I can say is thank goodness they do! Sometimes after the first couple of books, a book series can get dull and you feel like the author is just churning anything out, but not with Caroline. Her books are always interesting, unique and well plotted. I have read or listened to every one of her books now and I look forward to any upcoming releases.

Slow burner
This was a slow burner of a book and I almost gave up on it , but then it started to become faster paced with twists and turns and I wasn’t able to predict the killer at all.

*Ruby to the Rescue*
Sgt Ruby Preston is juggling a few balls at the moment. Her relationship with a member of a known criminal family, that relationship produced a child who was adopted and is now in their life and a mother who’s health is declining due to dementia. All this before she even starts tackling her latest case.
The person responsible for the latest crime wave is not what or who you would expect. This suspect virtually hides in plain sight. The kills are almost a copycat of a long term prisoner, there are differences and Ruby is getting to the route of things. She wants to visit the long term prisoner and her DI is not in favour. He was was part of the original historical case. The DCI approves and Ruby gets stuck in unbeknown to her bosses, Ruby used her criminal connections to pave the way for her to get the prison visit.
The outcome will have your pulse racing right towards the emotionally charged end plus a twist.

Disappointed
Didn't finish, narrator wrong for this type of story, needed someone with a stronger, harder voice and the different accents used didn't work. Won't be buying one of her work again.
