Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Pickpocket John Jacob Turnstile is on his way to be detained at His Majesty's Pleasure when he is offered a lifeline, what seems like a freedom of sorts - the job of personal valet to a departing naval captain. Little does he realise that it is anything but - and by accepting the devil's bargain he will put his life in perilous danger. For the ship is HMS Bounty, his new captain William Bligh and their destination Tahiti.
From the moment the ship leaves port, Turnstile's life is turned upside down, for not only must he put his own demons to rest, but he must also confront the many adversaries he will encounter on the Bounty's extraordinary last voyage. Walking a dangerous line between an unhappy crew and a captain he comes to admire, he finds himself in a no-man's land where the distinction between friend and foe is increasingly difficult to determine....

A popular story retold brilliantly and originally.
At first look this is retelling of a familiar story. Bligh’s reputation has been reassessed more positively in recent years but the book doesn’t settle for easy comparison between him and Fletcher Christian, instead focussing on the fictional servant of Cpt Bligh. It’s an engaging and fascinating story and In Boyne’s hands even the scenes set adrift in a boat is full of beautifully observed moments. A joy.

The most riveting, exquisite book!
John Boyne is yet again,
an outstanding storyteller.
I have loved most of his audiobooks and each one is totally captivating. He dares to pick gritty subjects which he delicately exposes with emotion and humour in equal measures.
The Narrator is fantastic and switches between native accents effortlessly, creating a constantly changing atmosphere.
Without a doubt, this is Boyne’s best book yet. Thank you John, for many hours of sheer joy.

Third time and I still love this book
The intricacy of the language won’t spell bind you. The descriptions are neither poetic nor vibrant. However the characters created are so human, the adventure so epic that even on my third go on this story I’m left with butterflies. This is brilliant. Please read/listen. I miss the characters already.

I loved all the characters, except of course the Scut . One of those books you don’t want to end.

Two Sides
I remember this story as a boy. I am now sixty. Only ever recognised the Trevor Howard - Blyth. The Marlon Brando - Christian?
This version now gives me a Gregory Peck - Blyth. A dark Marlon Brando Christian. Fantastic alternate side!

Worth Sticking With!
This book takes a while to get going (the narration is excellent throughout which makes up for it), but I have listened to the final 5 hours pretty much in one sitting I was so enraptured! Highly recommended!

Fantastic narrator, brilliant story
Not what I expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. (I had no particular interest in this historical story, until I listened to this), but all the characters were rich and the writing was beautiful
