Summary

My daughter thought she had found the man of her dreams. But now, her life is in danger....

When Ellie tells me she has a new boyfriend, I am absolutely thrilled and can’t wait to meet him. She finally seems so happy and in love.

But there’s a catch. Ellie has never met him in person. In fact, he doesn’t even live in the same country. Our home is in England, but Daryl is in Los Angeles.

When handsome Daryl invites Ellie to stay with him at his luxury Los Angeles mansion for a few weeks, I insist on joining her. I need to find out more about the man who has my daughter so enamoured.

Daryl welcomes us into his whitewashed house, complete with a stunning swimming pool and sun-drenched patio. But one morning, I discover a terrible secret in his basement that changes everything. He has been lying to us from the start.

I go to confront him, but Ellie and Daryl are nowhere to be found. I call Ellie’s phone, but there’s no answer.

Has something happened to my precious girl? And will I be able to save her?

An utterly gripping psychological thriller that will keep you up all night from the author of the number one best-selling novel The Doctor’s Wife. If you love Gone Girl, The Night She Disappeared, and The Perfect Couple, you’ll be hooked by My Daughter’s Boyfriend.

Totally unbelievable story

Far fetched and ridiculous story. Mother and daughter go to LA and solve a murder in 48 hours

5 star narrator!

Tamsin Kennard is an amazing narrator! The number of books I've listened to is 4 figures. After all those books and narrators Tamsin can still distinguish the different characters. in this book it was going between an English lady and an American man. I totally forgot it wasn't a genuine US male!
I'm a fan of Daniel Hurst and maybe because of that I predicted the ending very early on.
Nevertheless a good book and a 5 star narrator.

Painfully obvious

I can’t understand a 5* review I just noticed. The main characters are dreary and the plot obvious. No twists and turns, just obvious from start to finish. And the characters don’t tell the story like human beings; they use words and phrases that might be used by the author in descriptive narrative, which sound ridiculous coming from the characters as they tell the story. The only saving grace is that it’s a short book. I stupidly bought the next one having searched for another author, accidentally ordering this because I assumed it was by that author. So now I have the second book to listen to 🤦‍♀️ Well, at least it’s another short one.

Disappointing

Empty story, no explanation to why the boy was like he was, you would think the girl was 17 not 24 the way her mother treated her

Mediocre. 2.5 stars.

It’s not awful but it’s not great. There’s not much to it to be honest, and nothing of any note happens at all until around chapter 16 / 17.

It’s all very predictable and one of those books where you keep waiting for some big twist to make it worth it, but it never comes. Perhaps it would be an ok read for young adults / teens.

The 2 lead female characters are quite unlikeable, a 24 yr old who acts like a 15 yr old and a mother who treats her like one.

Wouldn’t bother reading other books by this author.

OK, but no surprises

Felt a bit underwhelmed by this book sadly. I found it all rather obvious at about the third of the way in and was successfully able to identify where the plot was going pretty quickly. I kept with it mainly as the narrator was good and in the hope that a not so obvious ending lay ahead. I found the daughter in it naiive and a bit irritating and the whole plot just a bit thin; whilst trying to capture the perils of social media/online dating having a boyfriend/villain that was from overseas lent nothing to the plot. It was an OK read but nothing more than that for me and I wouldn't recommend it sorry to say.

Predictable waste of time

So disappointed. Because off the reviews I hung on in there but I wasted my time. Utterly predictable
