About this listen
This book relates to the early life of Dennis Meredith, who was born into a working-class family in 1942 in conditions of poverty and hardship.
"We moved to Hinkler Road in Kenton, Middlesex, when I was still quite young, and I though it would be a new start for me, but I was wrong. I became so lonely I fell into a deep depression, and when I was 12 year old I thought it would be better to end my life. I hated school because I couldn't understand the lessons, and I was bullied because I smelt so badly. My father use to hit me a lot as he believed I wasn't his real son, and his beatings friend and traumatised me. Then one day I was sent to a convalescent home with no explanation."
Penned by Dennis in his own words, despite his acute dyslexia, this book lays out the tribulations of his life growing up and the terrible sadness he suffered, but also other moments of immense happiness. Above all, it tells of his determination to turn his life around and achieve many things he can today be very proud of.
It is both heart-wrenching and uplifting in brutally honest spirals.
