About this listen

Why did the country which produced Goethe, Beethoven, Bach, Schiller, Einstein, Kant, and Hegel allow itself to be led to the precipice of self-destruction by a ragged collective of criminals, misfits, sadists, and petty bureaucrats?

The Nazis and the Occult reveals the true nature of the Third Reich's link with arcane influences and of evil itself, as well as explaining how an ill-educated, psychologically unbalanced nonentity succeeded in mesmerizing an entire nation.

Forget what you have read, seen, and heard. This is the real secret history of Nazi Germany and its dark Messiah - Adolf Hitler.

Nazis and the Occult

An interesting book and well worth a read/listen. We all know that the Nazis were obsessed by the occult, but as with everything, they tried to control it to reflect exactly their own beliefs. The Third Reich never fails to be interesting, even if it's in a ghoulish way - ie, how could they be like this - and this is another angle.

The problem is the narrator. I have listed to William Roberts many times, and I enjoy listening to him as a rule, but he feels wrong for this - it's a very one-note narration, and he seems to have lost his volume control somewhere along the line. He wasn't the best choice for this one, unfortunately.

Rubbish

No history of substance. The subject matter is ridiculous. Avoid if you have a genuine interest in WW2 history.

A true case of ‘Follow the reader’!

I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook, having an interest in the history around WWII and the mystery and mysticism surrounding the occult. Sadly, I was disappointed. From the outset this comes across as an intensely opinionated slight on the Nazis. The writer’s fierce hatred for Hitler and his followers notwithstanding - and altogether understandable - he is at no pains to reference sources to flesh out particular sections of the book who he then dismisses and brands crackpots or as he says himself, ‘cryptohistorian’ and ‘cryptoscientist’. If this book had appeared with the title, ‘I’m going to let you know how much I really hate the Nazis and how I think they were too stupid and boorish to even understand the occult never mind practice anything remotely related to it!’, I think it would have worked better. But it’s not very sellable title.
The one redeeming factor about this audiobook was the performance of the reader. He is extremely talented and his accents - with the exception of his ‘Scottish’ accent which still needs work - are impeccable. He also delivers the content with great gusto which, I feel compelled to add, was the only thing that stopped me from returning the book.

Very dull and light on any factual evidence.

Not even entertaining in a pulpy or history channel way. No facts and very little history.
