About this listen

A serial killer is terrorizing the senior citizens of Denton, and the local police are succumbing to a flu epidemic. In uncertain charge of the investigations is Detective Inspector Jack Frost, crumpled, slapdash, and foul-mouthed as ever. Trying to cope despite inadequate backup, but there is never enough time; the unsolved crimes pile up and the vicious killings go on.

As entertaining as ever!

An ambitious young detective inspector finds himself assigned to work with Frost when he is posted to Denton. He is not best pleased to be working with the scruffy, slapdash and disorganised older man with his dubious remarks and rather crude humour. Gilmore would like to find favour with the pompous and oily Head Mullet who is more concerned with being a sycophant to his superiors and having paperwork done on time rather than supporting his troops and caring for their welfare.
Frost and Mullet are diametrically opposed and this creates delicious scenes of hilarity as they clash at every meeting. On a more serious note the Frost series does give an insight into how hard police work actually is. Frost always has several cases on the go at the same time and his days are extremely long.

Very good

Yes very good and enjoyable. But the accent of the reader was very false which spoilt it. It would have been better just to read it as the storyline paints the picture .
Just starting the next book

Another brilliant read

Which character – as performed by Stephen Thorne – was your favourite?

He performs them all brilliantly and is a really talented narrator

Any additional comments?

Another entertaining and amusing read from a superb author. I have listened to nearly all the Inspector Frost books (some more than once) and can't fault any of them. They are well worth the money.

A great crime story

A good story - but not sure about the accents of the characters -
Can't beat David Jason!
Some rude gags but it makes up the Frost character

Poor audio ruins the immersion

I love these stories but the audio was abysmal - kept cutting out, missing words every so often. It surprises me that these recordings aren't properly updated BUT seeing as I have my own copy, I can relisten, as and when. Not worth the credit or paying £7.99...

Loved it

What a great novel brilliantly read. The TV series which I really enjoy is dull by comparison. I read all the Frost novels in the 1990.s now I am listening to them on audible... Brilliant

Really enjoyed the narration

I enjoyed Frost on TV but he is an even rougher, cruder and more insubordinate world weary character here and makes the David Jason characterisation seem quite refined and restrained in comparison. I look forward to hearing more Frost audiobooks.
