About this listen

The second book in the Chris Ryan Extreme series. Former SAS hero John Bald is a man at war with himself and fighting a losing battle with the bottle. But then he is reluctantly thrust back into battle....

In the race to develop ever more powerful weapons, technology has become the new frontline in global terrorism. And when one of America's most cutting-edge defence contractors suspects a sleeper cell operating in its midst, the Firm reaches out to its most cold-blooded son. Bald's mission: kill the sleeper before they can smuggle top-secret weaponry into the hands of the West's deadliest enemies. But the mission goes sideways, and Bald is the fall guy. Now he must pursue the sleeper from the ghettos of Florida to the war-torn streets of Tripoli, in a relentless hunt for the technology and the truth. Shadowed every step of the way by a ruthless CIA hit man, Bald soon finds that the lines between friend and enemy are blurred, and he'll have to call on all his warrior instincts to stay alive...

The Chris Ryan Extreme books take you even further into the heart of the mission with even more extreme action, more extreme language, and more extreme pace. Like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, you'll feel part of the team.

Awful soud effects

This is a typical fast paced Chris Ryan adventure story about a thoroughly nasty character carrying out a highly unlikely series of 'missions' while in a physical state that would put even the toughest and fittest of soldiers into hospital for a month. It is entertaining and well read but completely ruined by the addition of a series of annoying and unnecessary sound effects which class 3C at the local infant school could have done better.

Very full on

Lots of action, but I found this just too violent with foul language. I've read Chris Ryan's books before, but this one is probably the last for me.

Stupid

This is just about the most stupid thing I have ever listened to. Beggars belief just how incredulous this is, from pointless sexual violence (which is never explained), to ridiculous turns of events. Even for an "action" book, this is plain silly. The sound effects are a joke too.

AN ACTION VERSION OF FIFTY SHADES.

One of the worst books I have read. I am a great fan of Mr McNab and Chris Ryan, but I have come to the conclusion that Chris Ryan is a pervert. Having read a similar review from a womans point of view, I should have known and expected this. Maybe I thought that she was a feminist, but she was right on the money, some of Chris Ryans books (Hit List, Matt Browning series) read like a smutty Fifty Shades of Grey, he should stick to what he writes best about. I am not convinced either that the Extreme series are written by Ryan anyway, such is the deviance of the normal plotlines. Asides the smut, there isnt a plot and the main character reads like a sexist, racist and bogotted James Bond, even the one liners are about as amusing as a bout of flu. It really does read like a plot was drafted on a pack of B&H and the story muddles along, made up as it progresses. If you like books of this genre, stick to Andy McNab, Fred Fosyth or others, but Ryans latest book Osama was good, so leads me to suspect that this isnt Ryans work. Given the smutty nature of the sexual explicitness, I wonder who Ryan would think that this appeals to, I have also returned this to audible and I complained that it should have had a warning on it. You expect foul language given the nature of the subject matter, but not to this degree.

I can't finish it

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book series is getting worse.

Would you ever listen to anything by Chris Ryan again?

No chance

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Josh Cohen?

No problem with Josh just the story.

What character would you cut from Night Strike?

The SAS soldiers!

Disappointing

I would like to finish the story but it was unnecessarily full of swear words and it put me completely off.
