About this listen
Stevie Bell solved the case of Truly Devious, and now she’s taking her detecting skills abroad when she becomes embroiled in a mystery from 1990s England. Another pulse-pounding and laugh-out-loud stand-alone mystery from New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson.
Senior year at Ellingham Academy for Stevie Bell isn’t going well. Her boyfriend, David, is studying in London. Her friends are obsessed with college applications. With the cold case of the century solved, Stevie is adrift. There is nothing to distract her from the questions pinging around her brain—questions about college, love, and life in general.
Relief comes when David invites Stevie and her friends to join him for study abroad, and his new friend Izzy introduces her to a double-murder cold case. In 1995, nine friends from Cambridge University went to a country house and played a drunken game of hide-and-seek. Two were found in the woodshed the next day, murdered with an ax.
The case was assumed to be a burglary gone wrong, but one of the remaining seven saw something she can’t explain. This was no break-in. Someone’s lying about what happened in the woodshed.
Seven suspects. Two murders. One killer still playing a deadly game.

incredible as always!
Its 1:30am and I've just finished the book. This woman will be the death of me, I swear! Maureen is hands down one of my favourite authors but she doesn't help my anxiety one bit. Nine Liars is amazing from start to finish but I need it to be about 96 hours longer! I won't post spoilers but I absolutely cant wait to see what happens next for our Lovely Stevie.

Great!
this was a really good book, with the exception of the British accents, which weren't very convincing. there'd better be another book in the series, though...

Story was great, accents less so
I really enjoyed the story, great follow on from the previous ones but I found the attempts at different British accents really jarring - I honestly would’ve preferred the narrator to just stick to an American accent. Saying 24 June instead of reading it as 24th June drove me mad but that’s just me being nitpicky

The accents were funky but this was a great read.
I hope there is more in the series, you can’t leave me hanging like that Maureen.

Bottom of the List
Honestly, I wasn't as impressed with this novel as much as I was with previous instalments.
Firstly, the accents. I can't stress how badly the accents in this story affected my attention to the audiobook. The narrator has always seemed a little... robotic in this audiobook series, but this time, there was the addition of the many accents, and it all fell to bits. The English accents were bad enough, but then it's said she's trying to do an Irish accent, and I just couldn't take it seriously.
Then there was the mystery. It had so much potential. Unfortunately, it fell short and became secondary to the pointless drama. I'm here for the mystery, not whatever the hell was going on with this forced romance between Stevie and David. Because it was forced. It was shoehorned in because that's what YA does.
If there's another book, which there likely will be with that god awful ending, I'll check it out. I'm in for the long haul, but yeah. This was a subpar entry to the series.
