Summary

The hilarious and moving story of Christian O'Connell's very public journey from number one to no one.

As a radio DJ in London, Christian O'Connell appeared to have it all.

He held the number-one spot nationally, with a faithful audience of millions who'd listened to him for years. Celebrities flocked to come on his show, and no other radio DJ had won more awards.

But not everything was as it seemed. Minutes before going live one morning, something happened that changed everything and led to a decision of seismic proportions. He quit his job, moved to the other side of the world where no one knew him and took on the toughest radio market in the world - Australia.

Why? Is the question he's been asked every day since landing Down Under. Until now he's never shared the real reason.

No One Listens to Your Dad's Show is the story of Christian risking everything, uprooting his wife, two daughters and his dog to move to Australia. A move that lands him as a complete unknown in a country where, he soon finds out, no one wants to hear him on the radio.

He was failing, 40-something and falling apart. Until he wasn't.

What a man .

I’ve followed this guy from XFM as a teenager right to the present day with GOLD 104.3 .

This is a story of a new beginning , a new start in a new land and the struggles that come with that but with the added piece that trying to get a population of 5 million people to like you !

This book is fantastic, well written , honest , real.

I laughed ,cried ,smiled sometimes all within 5 minutes of listening !

I can genuinely say Christian O’Connell is one person i would love to meet .

Give this book a go !

Simply Excellent!

I hadn't known much about Christian before I read this bit was pulled in by the premise. This book really spoke to me in a way I had not anticipated and I loved every second. It's about being brave enough to take the plunge, being brave enough to see and accept yourself. Christian, I doubt you'll ever read this but can I just say how much I needed to hear your story, thank you form the bottom of my heart.
I couldn't stop listening.

Honest, funny and charming

I used to work with Christian back in his xfm days. He wouldn't know me but he was always lovely to work with as we came up with funny ways to promote his show, mainly for free. This book is just like hearing a friend telling you their honest and often heart breaking story of how a midlife crisis makes you think on what is really important to you. A great listen. Cheers OC

Great to catch up .

I have missed Christian since he left Absolute Radio, it's great to catch up and find that he's ok in Oz, a funny and heart warming listen.

Honest & humbling read

I’ve listened to Christian on the radio for years (Absolute Radio years) & have always been a big fan of his shows. The honest way he spoke about mental health & how we speak to ourselves has really made me reflect. I’ve already recommended my husband has a read as he deals with self doubt & negative thinking daily. So thank you for writing this book & re-evaluating how I judge myself so harshly.

I listened!

Thought provoking and honest!! As someone who listened to the breakfast show in the UK and then the podcast from Melbourne it was a fascinating view behind the scenes of what was really going on. A great walk down memory lane as well as that raw emotional perspective that we didn’t fully get on the radio.

Wow, just wow.

I’ve just listened to the book in one session despite having already bought and read it when it was first released. It’s an honest story of hope, the search for happiness and the celebration of family which I’ve got so much more from in audio form. It was a mix of sadness for me and excitement him and his family when Christian announced he was abandoning the UK to move to Australia. I still listen to his podcasts religiously as I always did. His story reminds me that you never quite realise what anyone else is going through, no matter how much you think you do.

Superb

Absolutely brilliant, I love the way Christian tells his story in his selfdepricating manner, he turns regular mundane life into hilariously funny stories, I really miss listening to his UK breakfast show. I look forward to another book on the mundanities of life, this guy has opened another door onto his creative talents.
Cheers

An Amazing listen.

Listened to Christian for a long time on the radio. Was gutted when he left the UK but now found an app to let me listen to his show in Australia. I cannot really put into words how brilliant this audiobook is. A frank and thought provoking insight into the life of a unique DJ who brings something so different to radio. Made me laugh, made me cry, made me think and take stock of where I am in my life and made me see how lucky I am compared to so many. A brilliant listen. Totally recommended.
