Summary

The sequel to the Sunday Times number-one bestseller No Time for Goodbye. Seven years ago, Terry Archer and his family experienced a horrific ordeal that nearly cost them their lives. Today, the echoes of that fateful night are still audible. Terry's wife, Cynthia, is living separate from her husband and daughter after her own personal demons threatened to ruin her relationship with them permanently. Their daughter, Grace, is rebelling against her parents' seemingly needless overprotection. Terry is just trying to keep his family together. And the entire town is reeling from the senseless murder of two elderly locals.

But when Grace foolishly follows her delinquent boyfriend into a strange house, the Archers must do more than stay together. They must stay alive. Because now they have all been unwillingly drawn into the shadowy depths of their seemingly idyllic hometown. For there, they will be reconnected with the man who saved their lives seven years ago, but who still remains a ruthless, unrepentant criminal. They will encounter killers for hire working all sides. And they will learn that there are some things people value much more than money, and will do anything to get it.

Caught in a labyrinth between family loyalty and ultimate betrayal, Terry must find a way to extricate his family from a lethal situation he still doesn't fully comprehend. All he knows is that to live, he may have to do the unthinkable....

A good yarn...

A decent story if a little far fetched - not quite as good as no time for goodbye but enjoyable all the same.

Most of the characters were believable, but there were a lot of coincidences!

A good performance by the narrators.

I look forward to Mr Barclay's next book and dare I say it another sequel in a few years time?

V enjoyable but very typical of Lynwood Barclay

If you could sum up No Safe House in three words, what would they be?

Familiar (I've read or listened to them all) PacyPredictable

Would you recommend No Safe House to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes if they liked these kind of novels.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Can't really answer that as not one scene stood out

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Predictable but enjoyable

Any additional comments?

I really like Lynwood Barclay, but I think he's been a little lazy with this novel. It's too much like other ones. He needs to take it away from a 'neighbour's house' and try something a little different. He's good, but relying on the same format each time is growing weary.

A sequel that fails to equal 'No time for Goodbye'

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you liked 'No time for Goodbye', which I loved by the way, then you have to listen to this one. But, well certainly for me, it didn't quiet live up to the former.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the main characters, including anti-hero Vince, the storey kept flowing at a good pace.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Brian O'Neill and Graham Winton ?

Yes, but not with these characters. William Hope provided the narration for 'No time for Goodbye', and changing narrator sort of spoilt it - I love consistency with character narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I never do. Why do you keep asking this pointless question? The answer will always be 'yes' or 'no'

Any additional comments?

The end of the storey left you wondering if there'll be a third instalment. It didn't need the sequel to begin with and another book isn't necessary. Linwood Barclay is an exceptional author, and I wonder if he did this book under some sort of pressure from his agent?

Captivating. A worthwhile addition to my library.

I must admit that No Safe House is my first introduction to Linwood Barclay, but I am certain that it will not be my last.
This book had my attention from the very beginning to the last word.
The characters are well developed and the various personalities become people straight off.
The storyline is complex but at the same time, it was easy enough to follow. An unpredictable and interesting book.

Another brilliant book by my favourite author!

Brilliantly written as always by Linwood Barclay. Couldn't wait to listen each time but also didn't want it to end

An enthralling , if complex , story line

I thought the narrators did an excellent job and really captured the spirit of the characters well . However , I think the plot would have been easier to follow if one had read the first book in the series . Some of the detail of the story went a bit over my head as I was unaware of the earlier events in the first book . But overall an enjoyable read with some clever interpretations of the mother / daughter relationships and unexpected twists to the story line .
