About this listen
When a massive meteor lights up the sky over the remote island of Kerguelen, the world holds its breath. In Birchwood, Colorado, Dan McCarthy gets to work.
Following his incredible experiences of the previous year, Dan knows this was no natural occurrence. The Messengers are back - to finish what they started - and they didn't come all this way for nothing....
Not Alone: Second Contact is the long-awaited sequel to Not Alone, an Audible "Best of 2016" finalist.

A good solid follow up
I've just finished both Not Alone books by Craig A Falconer - both pulled me into the story in a subtle yet powerful way. Told in an understated way, for all its momentous happenings, I found the story compelling, believable (with some exceptions), and a fascinating take on human nature, and the "What ifs" that we have probably all asked ourselves at some point or other. Although parts were arguably overlong and might have benefited from tighter editing, on balance, this perhaps reflected the unsophisticated nature of the lead character, Dan McCarthy. The audiobook narration was equally understated but solid - all in all, a satisfying listen/read.

Best sci-fi Audio book I've bought
A fantastic audio book. Well written. intelligently written. a great story. i hadn't listened to the first one but this one explains the first ones story. Very impressed. It is a long journey and you truley feel like you are in the story. The way it's written is intricate in terms of what people are thinking and how they act. I wasn't expecting such a special entertainment experience. They should make the whole story into a movie.

Too much…….
I found the sequel to be less engaging than I had hoped. The focus still shifted significantly towards conspiracy theories, with an emphasis on elaborating a specific viewpoint, which, in my opinion, detracted from the pacing and reduced any action just like the first book. More of the same made the novel feel quite tedious at times. While I understand that some readers may appreciate this depth of exploration into conspiratorial elements, it personally made the prospect of continuing with the series less appealing to me.

A refreshing take and a very enjoyable book.
Thoroughly enjoyed the second book as the first book. It doesn't follow the many cliched sci fi trajectories in terms of plot. It's not a us vs them book, it explores the nature of altruism and empathy. Innate traits that we all have inside, every single one of us. It's a refreshing take on a genre that is saturated with heavily cliched story lines that have been written time immemoral. It does touch on a key point that I believe is true, there are many elements that thrive with conflict as it's a billion dollar industry. Instead of conflict and the inward / isolationistic focus we should be focusing on space exploration. I won't say much beyond that as I do not wish to spoil a good book. There is something that is worth mentioning - the people who whinge and complain how a story should proceed or end - to these people I say go write your own book then you can do whatever you want with your story. Stop trying to appropriate characters created by an author and dictate how a story should go or end. Every. Single. Story. Should always be judged on it's own merits. On that note, if you can keep an open mind and not go batty over the smallest thing in a story then you will enjoy this audiobook as I did. If however you cannot keep an open mind then I suggest you stop listening to audiobooks and reading stories completely. Because the set trajectories will always be out of your control. There more important things to life than stressing over the trajectory of a plot or ending in a book. All emotion is energy, it matters how you channel it.

Definitely worth a listen
Great follow up to the first book! A little to much recapping on past events from the first book but despite that a great follow up and conclusion! Definitely worth adding to your collection.

Slow burner but stick with it
I must admit I loved the first book, it was refreshing change to this sci-fi genre however this second book was that slow to start, well I nearly gave up on it.
The constant recovering of the previous book and slow plodding story line wasn't entirely unexpected but it certainly was a tad dull at times.
However as the book progressed new threads emerged and established relationships developed further making the latter part seem to fly by and before you know it the books concluded.
