Summary
A moving, thought-provoking and surprisingly humorous book which is both a description of a journey to death and a celebration of the act of living. Based on Clare Wise's blog, which she started when she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2013, Not That Kind of Love charts the highs and lows of the last three years of Clare's life. The end result is not a book that fills you with despair and anguish. On the contrary, Not That Kind of Love should be listened to by everybody for its candour and for its warmth and spirit.
Clare is an astonishingly dynamic, witty and fun personality, and her positivity and energy exude from every minute. As she becomes too weak to type, her brother - the actor Greg Wise - takes over, and the book morphs into a beautiful meditation on life and the necessity of talking about death. With echoes of Atul Gawande's Being Mortal and Cathy Rentzenbrink's The Last Act of Love, it is a very special listen that rejoices in the extraordinary and often underestimated sibling bond and the importance of making the most of the ordinary pleasures life has to offer.
As Greg Wise writes in the book: 'Celebrate the small things, the small moments. If you find yourself with matching socks as you leave the house in the morning, that is a cause for celebration. If the rest of the day is spent finding the cure for cancer, or brokering world peace, then that's a bonus.'

If only there was a happy ending
So moving, what depth of love and honesty was poured into these words by the Wises.

A beautiful memoir
I admit to purchasing this book because I'm a admirer of Greg Wise and his lovely wife Emma Thompson. I didn't know he had a sister and was entranced by this book. What a wonderful character she was. Claire literally sounds like the best friend that everybody should have. The fact she worked in the film industry too (I think?!) was interesting to me too, as I too once revolved in those circles. The big C is an all too common condition and one that probably scares most of us. This memoir of Claires journey is captivating and beautifully told by her friend and Greg. It proper had me laughing at times and yes, tears were shed too. Endearing, beautiful and heart breaking all captured in the words of Claire and Greg. Utterly brilliant. Have a listen. I promise you. You won't be disappointed.

I wish I'd discovered this book sooner.
I feel like I travelled a difficult road with Claire and Greg and as a result of their honesty I understand the issues so much better. That said, I never expected to find so much laughter and joy in life in a book about cancer, the terrible effects of chemo and the challenge of caring for a terminally ill close relative! I'm very grateful.

Such a beautiful story about love and death.
I would thoroughly recommend this audio book. Based on Clare's blogging, it gives insight into cancer treatment and the destruction a terminal illness can cause whilst being funny, uplifting and honest. The love between Clare and her brother Greg is just beautiful. I'm so glad i listened to this.

Deeply moving and beautiful
Deeply moving and beautiful documentation of a journey from diagnosis to the end of a life lost too young. Recommend to everyone.

Heart Warming
Really interesting read and some good points raised about death and the dying.
Heart warming approach to a subject which unfortunately is not viewed regularly in today’s society

Touching and helpful
My twin brother died of lung cancer in July 2017. Thank you to Claire (in her absence) and Greg for giving me an insight into this disease, it's treatment warts and all, and for highlighting compassion fatigue. It has touched me, made me cry, and helped me fully understand what my brother and his family went through. It has helped me deal with my grief, thank you.

An honest, brutal and heart rending tale.
I learnt a lot about the value of relationships, living in the moment and comedy as a device to make the unbearable, bearable. This book is an inspirational read.
