Summary
"I am a sick man.... I am a spiteful man", a nameless voice cries out. In 1864, just prior to the years in which he wrote his greatest novels - Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed, and The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodor Dostoevsky penned the darkly fascinating Notes from Underground. Its nameless hero is a profoundly alienated individual in whose brooding self-analysis there is a search for the true and the good in a world of relative values and few absolutes. Moreover, the novel introduces themes - moral, religious, political, and social - that dominated Dostoevsky’s later works.
Those who are familiar with his works will immediately recognize the novel's richly complex philosophical, political, and psychological themes; those who are not will find the best introduction to Dostoevsky's grander masterpieces.

Great story but unfortunately read by an Awful voice
Cant stand this guys voice and he seems to be on everything interesting I listen to - I’ve figured out that if you play him 1.5x his voice is much more palatable

A classic for other's, I suppose!
Maybe as I haven't read in a long time and was looking for recommendations I fell upon the book I found it a hard read, I'm not saying it's a bad book but it was a depressing read and not a book I would seek out,

Amazing writing, but found the beginning dull.
If I didn’t know it it was FD, I may have just not bothered continuing. It’s a depressing story of a pathetic man. The reading was very good, allbeit depressing also. Tough read for me persoanlly.

Best book.
this is a book about me, and i suspect you. I've never read anyone that was able to pull so completely my inner workings and articulate them so clearly in all their horrible reality.

Fantastic Russian Classic
I first read this in hardback at the age of 14 and it blew my mind. I comprehended little of the material at that time and even through subsequent revisits, but this time in audio felt even more profound an experience for that past knowledge.
This is the work which got me into writing and while we can view it as potentially self-indulgent and depressive now, we have to consider the time and place in which it was produced. Dostoyevsky himself was a man well ahead of his time and culture, and woefully underappreciated.
Having just recovered from a spell of deep depression in 2022, this work felt like seeing an old friend who reminds you that things are not so bad.
Warning that it is quite hard going unless you are in to classical works.

Wonderfully profound and depressing book
This book was very good, and was performed very well. The best praise I can give it is that I never want to read/hear it again. It depicts the mind of a deeply unpleasant man in whom it was far too easy to identify with.
