Summary
Sawyer Smith’s life is a hot mess.
Hot, because he’s found six of his eight mates. To say things are heating up between them is putting it mildly.
A mess, because he’s the Chosen One, the son of a goddess with no powers of his own, tasked with fixing the broken magic in his world....And he has no clue how to do it.
With every new layer of mystery that's revealed, Sawyer's doubts about his abilities get stronger. To complicate matters, Sawyer is growing weaker by the day. Meanwhile, his newest guardian, the one he’s calling Yellow Eyes, refuses to reveal himself.
With time running out, Sawyer's desperate enough to make a daring move -- one that's potentially deadly for him and his mates. Because at the end of the day, if there’s nothing ventured, there’s nothing gained.

Great Continuation of the Story
Nothing Gained is the fourth book in the Chosen One series. It is really important to read the first three books in the series first before this one otherwise you won’t understand the plot. I also suggest reading the first three books in the Hellhound series and the short novella Double or Nothing. (I read the Chosen One series without reading these books first, and was able to follow along, but now that I’m going back and reading them, I realize how much richness of detail they add to the overall storyline.)
Wow - the twists and turns never cease. I was not expecting the accusations one of the new guardian threw at Sawyer. I think this bit of conflict and confrontation created more character development which added depth. I also know I’m just going to LOVE the newest guardian. Things are finally coming together and the bigger picture is being revealed. The next book is the last in the Chosen One series (but not the last in this world) and I’m excited to see the much anticipated conclusion.
The audiobook is narrated by Michael Dean who does a terrific job. There is a whole host of characters that span the paranormal spectrum, and Michael keeps them all distinct and unique. The audiobook production was well done and I enjoyed listening to it.

The Fascinating Brilliance Continues~Amazing🎧📚🎧
I can not recommend this or give enough praise to this series, if I could I would give it way over five stars too. Macy Blake is a gifted author with a fabulously imaginative and creative mind, I am loving the fascinating characters and storylines she created as well as the fascinating world in which they live. A magical world where the supernatural live amongst ordinary humans, but their paranormal gifts kept a secret them. This book picks up where the third book left off and things are picking up for Sawyer, blanks are being filled in and we are seeing who he really is, another wow moment that I never saw that one coming. His bond with his mates is growing stronger, and he is learning more about his latest addition, Dakota, the one who was watching over him, yellow eyes. He is one of the more complex ones, an angsty one too, with reason but what he tells Sawyer is eye opening, Now that they know who they are up against, and who has the last of his guardians it is an all out rescue mission. There is never a dull moment in this action packed and brilliantly plotted story, the layers to the story are amazing as is the world building. I am thrilled and excited to get to the end but dreading it at the same time because it is the end of the series. I was happy that Macy Blake was not done with this fabulous world she created. Thank you for another great story and the wild ride.
🎧📚🎧 Michael Dean continues to deliver an outstanding performance as he brings these characters and their story to life. He has a complete understanding of the characters he is portraying, gives them their own unique voice that suits that characters persona perfectly and makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. He handles the dialogue with ease, switches character roles effortlessly without ever missing a beat. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance and has you feeling every single one. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to, his narration enhances an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Rocky times ahead
It's not fair for me to give this book a proper review, because though I did listen to it, I also had some serious sh*t going on in my life that kept dragging my attention away throughout the book. What I can say right now is that despite my absentmindedness, I did enjoy myself whenever I managed to give it proper attention. Also, fortunately my stuff has resolved itself, and so I'm truly excited to return to this series and see how it resolves itself in the last book. I expect lots of drama!

Menage, Harem…? Let’s just say hot
In the last book, Sawyer discovered the fairy prince was not his mate (thank goodness). No, it’s the fairy prince’s bodyguard, Locke. Locke carries some deep secrets, but he’s quickly incorporated into the growing menage. He’s number six, and Sawyer is pretty sure the creature just beyond the view of the house is the seventh. He’s called by this creature, and wants to do right by him. But Dakota sees more than most, and is very wary.
Sawyer is being cared for by Cecil, but even those ministrations aren’t enough. He loses much of his power when he’s not surrounded by his mates – and there is one left to find. Will they find him in time? And why has Sawyer made the choices he has to this point? The finding of mates is proving a doable task – undoing the mess he created when he gave up his powers and took human form is not. But the final confrontation is coming, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.
Quick should out to Michael Dean who is doing an awesome job narrating this series and I can’t wait to see how it ends.

Amazing
This series gets better with each book. The first three books were fantastic, so I was looking forward to this one. I was not disappointed. It was exciting and this time Sawyer and his Guardians were on a quest to find the last Guardian. It's exciting, there are twists and turns that I didn't expect and I just love the protagonists! Each is sexy in its own way and yet all are fundamentally different.
Michael Dean has done a fantastic job. I am thrilled with him as the narrator of these series and he is a pleasure to listen to!

Amazing!
I really enjoyed this instalment of the story, although the introduction of new characters and family members made my head spin a little. I am not sure if their stories/background are covered in other books, but there seemed to be just enough here to confuse. There also seemed to be some inconsistencies from the first book about Sawyer not knowing about the supernatural world, yet here he already knew that his brother was a lion shifter? Ignoring things like that, this is another fascinating and engaging chapter, as Sawyer finds the rest of his mates, learns more about his past and who he is, and struggles with the truth and his responsibilities.
Another excellent narration by Michael Dean really brings the characters to life.

the pieces are moving!
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio version of this book.
Read book 1 through 3 before this, and maybe the Hellhound series too! MAHOOSIVE spoiler alert for those books here! That said, I think I'll go back and read/listen to them too.
Guardian &, Dakota, finally makes an appearence, and Guardian 8, Pip, literally pops up right near the end. I liked him! He's cute and flirty, bit like Henry.
Things are coming to a head, though. Sawyer's brother is amassing his forces, as Sawyer tries to get to what it is he should be doing.
There are reasons that Dakota takes so long to warm to Sawyer, and once you get those reasons, things make a hell of a lot more sense!
Michael Dean's narration?? Cannot fault it. I mean CANNOT find a single thing that would make this a less than perfect review.
I have one more left, and I will be sad but given there are books in the Hellhound Champions series and the Chosen Champions series, and the short inbetween the main books here, I think I'm gonna be busy a while!
5 stars for the book and 5 for the narration, but seriously, I would give it more if I could.

can't stop reading
everything slows back down from the last book, the team gets a breather as they try and figure out what's going on and how they are meant to win the fight. We get more info on who the chosen one is and out final two guardians come out of the woodwork. We are getting close to the end here and you can feel it
