Summary

The most powerful men in the world were all together in a circle in the middle of the room. Drawing their daggers, they cut their right hands and, above the pile of gold, swore Odysseus’ vow: Helen could marry whom she liked, and the Princes would defend them both…. Everyone’s heard of the wooden horse of Troy, and of the beauty of Helen. Well this is the story as Odysseus saw it, from his boyhood in Ithaca to his participation in the bloody Trojan war itself.

Well that horse was a cunning plan.

I absolutely loved this story, but do wish that it had been longer. It Tony Robinson ever writes any more like this, I'll certainly listen to them.

Greatest Audio book of them all

I was thrilled to find this wonderfully narrated story from my childhood on audible.

Tony Robinson and Richard curtis put their own wonderful humour into the timeless tale of Homer's Illiad. A must listen for every young boy on a long car journey, with enough entertainment to keep all ears glued to the stereo.

Worth every penny.

A fantastic introduction to Greek Mythology

I read this book as a child and was thrilled to find it on Audible. I have now passed it on to my daughter and I hope she gets as much enjoyment from it as I did. This book spawned my love of Greek Mythology. Tony Robinson is a genius! Fantastic!

Best adaptation of a classic

Absolutly loved it. Robinson and Curtis bring a level of humour and realness to an ancient classic which makes it all that more accessible to impatient youngsters. I enjoyed it, not as a youngster, but as an adult who is very familiar with the original story. Had me chuckling away.

Odysseus as you’ve never heard it

Although Tony Robinson is an annoying Blairite pratt you can’t fault his story telling. This is a really engaging tale and he narrates it brilliantly!

Childhood favourite that still thrills

My partner recommended this series because he adored it as a child, and I loved it! Wicked, hilarious, and a little educational it really should be part of everyone's childhood or adult-hood.

Absolutely excellent to do the washing up to - which is a compliment of the highest regard. Honest.

Brings back memories

I remember listening to this and the second one as a child and I still love it now as much as I did then. Perfect.

An accessible version!

Finally, I have found a way to read this classic, the paper tome of which has been gathering dust, unread, for years. Fans of all things high brow may not like it, but I think it's wonderful. Probably the only way I'd get through it. This is not only for kids, but I'm sure they'd love it. An epic tale, told in as relatable a way as is possible, considering the gulfs of time, culture and language. Thank you, Messrs Curtis and Robinson!
