About this listen

Have you ever heard someone say that they “put out a fleece” to get God’s opinion on a decision they faced? Have you done it yourself? Maybe you want to know if a relationship is destined for the long haul, whether a job in a new city is the right move, or if God even loves you. Back in 1957 my mom and dad got a call to go serve a mission term in a faraway world called Thailand. Are you kidding me? They had zero clue about that country, or what kind of life they would have there with two little monster boys and a third on the way. Should they ask God for a sign? Go outside and look up at the cloud formations and see if heaven was putting a puffy white G-O in the sky just for Ken and Jean Smith? Well, Mom and Dad DID go, and we had the mission adventure of a lifetime, but God didn't offer them a supernatural sign or a Magic 8 ball to help them make up their minds.

Is putting out a fleece a sign of great faith in God’s willingness to communicate and His ability to work miracles, or is it an immature and desperate plea from a place of spiritual weakness? Is it better to have spiritual doubts at the foot of the cross or watch from a safe distance until our faith is rock solid?

Here in "Of Fleeces and Faith," I have a great time exploring from the fascinating Old Testament story of Gideon and his tiny little band of 300 warriors. He asked for a sign; in fact, he asked for three of them! God said yes, but is that the best way for a follower of heaven to proceed? Always wanting more proof, more proof, more more more?

Other titles in our collection of audiobooks include 'Once Saved, Almost Always Saved," "Simon and Mary," "Behold, He Comes," and a brand new holiday favorite for all you fans of Handel's "Messiah"? "For Unto Us a Child Is Born." And for sure I hope you will download the wonderful ten-hour performance of my friend and heroine Tonya Foster Yancey, who gives us a pitch-perfect presentation of my Bangkok adventure, "Love in a Distant Land."
