Summary

When an important Mafia boss is assassinated, no one knows anything. Omerta, the Mafia code of silence, is at work. No information is to be found, not from corrupt banks, rival gangs, or even from the courts. However, the nephew of the dead man and the head of the FBI are determined to track down the murderers. So determined, they join forces to begin their own investigation. After all, in the Mafia world, everyone has a price.

The Godnephew

Would you consider the audio edition of Omerta to be better than the print version?

No idea, I usually either buy a book or listen to a book. But I enjoyed the narrator.

What other book might you compare Omerta to, and why?

The Godfather, obviously, and being a big fan of the films I started reading/listening to books of Mario Puzo. I was not dissapointed, he has a real talent for letting you into the lives of both the police inspectors and the maffiosi and show you that good an bad is not all that black and white.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed the fact that his voice was very well suited to read out this kind of book. He really contributed to the atmosphere of the book. When listening for instance to the part set in Sicily, I really could picture myself there.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I enjoyed it but it did not make me cry nor laugh.

Any additional comments?

Well worth listening to!

Pointless

None of the characters have any depth. Their characteristics are all based on some cliched Mafia stereotypes. Nothing is believable, and the reader is given nothing to believe or engage in. There is no background to the characters that makes the reader care about them. Feels like it was written by an 18 year old student living in Northampton using his "101 things to put in a Mafia book " student guide. Entirely predictable and shallow

Don't know whether it's the book or the reader...

...but this is boring beyond anything. I got within 35 minutes of the end and just gave up, really dull and directionless. "The Godfather" this ain't.

Awesome Story

As a huge fan of the Godfather, I've no idea why I've not come across this book before. A great story, and a good narrator.

Timeless storytelling

Mario Puzo is truly the master at stories which get to the heart of the Mafia. This standalone is no exception and with a complex plot and a range of characters, I really bought in to the ethics. Complex and satisfying, really enjoyed it.

a good story.

it was nice to listen to a story without the narrator trying to put a different voice to each character. the only annoying part is, the length of pause between paragraphs and new chapters.
