About this listen

Once upon a Trailer Park begins with a murder on the streets of the beautiful bird RV Park in Palm Hill, Florida. As residents learn bits and pieces about the crime (some true, some less so), they form and reform theories of the killer’s identity. It’s the park weirdo. It’s the ex-wife. It’s the victim’s employer.

For a few couples in the park, it's important to find out the truth - some due to friendship, some from fear, some to protect themselves.

What soon becomes clear is that asking too many questions brings danger. In fact, for one unlucky senior citizen, it could spell disaster.

A new series that’s suspenseful, humorous, and focused on mature couples with loving (but, sometimes, contentious) relationships.

In a trailer park, word gets around.

Early morning in a trailer park in Palm Hill, Florida, an elderly couple notice something lying in the road that shouldn't be there: the body of an unknown man, stabbed in the back by knitting needles. This is a who-dun-it with a difference because all of the clues for the reader to determining the killer's identify come, not from the ensuing police investigation, but from following the gossip between the residents living on the trailer park.

The book is told in the first person but from numerous perspectives as the mostly over sixty fives who regularly winter on the site, discuss the unusual event between themselves in addition to talking about their own lives and general impressions, and forming opinions about the cu!prit. It is a really clever way to investigate a murder as well as getting to know the people involved, both from their own understandings of themselves and the way they are viewed by others. To avoid confusion, each new point of view is clearly preceded by their identification by name and, where relevant, that of their partner and their location in the trailer park also. Narration by Anne Jacques, though well paced and generally well performed, does not always clearly identify the individual, so this information is helpful.

The author has a talent for characterisation and observation of the odd foibles that everyone possesses which is what makes this book so endeading. My thanks to the rights holder of Once Upon a Trailer Perk who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via F.A.F.Y. The book was a fun read, replete with living people and the humour of everyday life of the not so young any more. Great start to what I hope will be an ongoing series, and recommended.
