Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Some love stories are worth risking everything for.
Wren leaves home and heartbreak to spend the summer with her father and step-family on their farm in Indiana, Midwestern USA. More than anything she hopes this trip will provide a chance to heal and build bridges.
There Wren meets two brothers. Jonas is a notorious heartbreaker and Anders is still grieving the wife he lost in a tragic accident three years ago. In spite of being warned off falling for either of them, Wren is inextricably drawn to Anders.
As the harvest approaches, Wren knows her feelings are growing stronger. What Wren doesn't know is that Anders has been harbouring an earth-shattering secret, and if he acts on any feelings he has for Wren it will have serious fall-out for everyone.
Walking away from Anders will hurt Wren more than she can imagine. But how can she possibly stay once she's discovered the obstacles that lie between them?
Critic reviews
"Deep, emotional, powerful, beautifully written with a masterful tender touch - this book is a must-read." (Milly Johnson)
"Paige Toon writes such beautiful, emotional love stories. I adored Only Love Can Hurt Like This - it swept me away to the gorgeous Wetherill Farm and I fell in love with Wren and Anders." (Beth O'Leary)
"Oh my GOD. This book! Only Paige Toon can make me believe in the power of love this way. Wren and Anders took me on a sweeping journey through America's Midwest that left me giddy, and breathless. This is going to be totally massive, because it has everything: family, love, secrets, sexy descriptions of brooding, hot men... just sublime." (Laura Jane Williams)

Easy listening.
First Page toon book I have read. A nice romantic easy listen with a few twists and turns. Sometimes that’s all that is needed.

Another first class from Paige Toon
If you’re in need of satisfying, absorbing escapism with likeable characters and emotional depth - Toon is a reliable choice. My sole complaint is the compliment of a desire for more from her.
This is a really lovely story which totally held my attention - recommended.

Listen on 1.2 speed
Nice little story & Easy read. But the speed of the reading is painfully slow. Much more normal speed at 1.2

Paige Toon at her best
I’ve read everyone of Paige Toon’s novels and have basically grown up with them… I started in my late teens and I am now in my 30s and I still always read or now listen to her latest release. I haven’t liked all her books but always admired her excellence at capturing a sense of place and drawing deeper characters than a lot of her peers. I was a little reticent reading Only Love Can Hurt Like This because I really didn’t enjoy her last book Somebody I Used To Know (I know others loved it). However, I felt this was Paige getting back to what I love most about her books, a realistic heroine, a great setting (a brilliantly written farming community in Indiana) and a tortured male love interest and one hell of a twist. And it was at her heartbreakingly romantic best. There were little things I could nitpick over but if you are a fan contemporary romantic fiction, I would highly recommend. Also a very high quality audiobook production.

It’s a yes from me!
I really enjoyed this book and the narration was superb 4 stars for the story simply because you could guess the ending but the story up to the end was great.
Loved it.
