Summary
A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook
With tyranid hive fleets approaching, the Carcharodons make a stand on the world of Piety V. If they can stop the xenos here, they will be able to end the menace before it begins.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
The most inhuman and brutal Chapter of Space Marines get a first hand look at the common people they fight to protect, and the results are surprising.
THE STORY
The Carcharodons’ remit is an unenviable one – this Chapter of Space Marines plies the dark areas of space, endlessly hunting down the enemies of mankind. Living on the edge, with no fixed base of operations, they are creatures shaped by their environment, renowned for their ruthlessness and their brutality. With a fresh wave of tyranid hive fleets approaching the galactic plane, the Carcharodons decide to use the world of Piety V as a bulwark. If they can stop the xenos here, they will be able to end the menace before it begins. But as they mobilise the planet’s defenders, and fight the tyranids, the Carcharodons come to learn what the value of mankind truly is.

Excellent follow up to “Red Tithe”
After reading book one, “Outer Dark” continues the story of 3rd Company and the stories of those affected by the incidents and fallout from “Red Tithe”. Very pleased with the consistency of the narration. Excellent work

Robbie MacNiven and Shogo Miyakita are fantastic
I really enjoyed the first book, but I loved this one. I liked that the first half wasn't just 'Space Marines kill stuff for hours' but really interesting insight. The Carcaradons are so interesting and seeing thier interactions with other factions (especially renegades) was so fun. Seeing a bit into the world of the Asteral Claws was great and the Inquisitoral retinue (which is probably the weakest part) was still interesting. Robbie MacNiven needs to be given more 40k books to write, and Shogo Miyakita needs more books to narrate! Both are so good at what they do.

Night Sharks meet Gene Stealers
Red Tithe was better, not that this is bad. Starts off really good, then falls a bit into old basic tropes. I like Shogo's voice in general, but there isn't much variation. There is a bit of a Maori vibe with our loyalist Night Lords chapter, but wouldn't have call it cultural appropriation had a more experienced voice artist narrated the Carcharodons. Not that cultural appropriation is even a thing. I don't mind Shogo, but the White Scars books didn't need a new narrator either, but I digress.
Carcharodons meet genestealers, Inquisition meets Carcharodons, trouble ensues. Not the worst, but not the best. Tyranid books are never the best ones, except for that Adrian Tchaikovsky one.

the narrator makes the story
interesting use of characters such as the introduction of a certain inquisitor, the hints towards the caradons primarh, nice development of a distinct space marine chapter.

Excellent
Story and narration top tier. A little too condensed. Would have been even better with a bit more substance.

Narration was top notch
A great addition to the series. Looking forward to the next one. Hopefully they allow for the same combo of author and narrator
