I'm torn with this series
I like the story and the narration is ok. It would have been a sound four stars but there are too many points that are niggling and spoiling it.
He said, She said, He said, they said, really grates after a while. Also, starting investigating a theft without first speaking to your smuggler friend is just daft. The lead character is so driven and cock sure of herself I'm amazed anyone likes her at all, yet her friends seem ok with that.
I have no idea of the author realises but there are a few too many little inclusions that sound straight from other fantasy stories. The Accords, Fred and George, etc. These might well be total coincidences but as there are so many and the author also uses numerous snippets from real films, it seems less likely. There is nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other work but if the similarities are obvious then it needs re worked.
Even with all these, the story still manages to be original and is worth a listen. So much so that I really can't decide if I recommend it or not.
