About this listen
For years, we've been telling ourselves that our difficult feelings - sadness, rage, shame, intensity, worry - are somehow "not okay". And, all too often, we've relied on the promise of pharmaceuticals to tamp them down. The fact is, though, that these feelings are a vital part of our experience. They are real. And those of us who feel them most strongly are the canaries in the coalmine - sensitive to things that are seriously wrong in the world today.
In a book that's both provocative and promising, holistic psychiatrist Kelly Brogan, MD, author of A Mind of Your Own, shows us that we don't have to medicate our mental, emotional, and physical pain away - that the best way out is through. She explodes the mistaken belief that our symptoms - from mood changes to irritability to fogginess and fatigue - are evidence that we are sick or broken. Then she charts a new path to get real, get well, and get free. The journey includes:
- Coming to a new appreciation of the meaning behind symptoms, and whether you are a canary in the coal mine
- Learning the two major risks of medication that most doctors are not trained to disclose
- Exploring the five reversible physical drivers of so-called mental illness
- Starting the process of radical physical healing with inclusive details of Dr. Brogan's history-making 30-day protocol
- Taking an emotional inventory of energy drains and toxic relationships
- Taking a deeper dive into the spiritual awakening and expansion that comes when you reclaim your real self from conventional medicine
- Identifying the most likely places you have given your power away
- Understanding what the science has to say about psychedelics as a tool for awakening
- Navigating health challenges with curiosity and the proper tools
- Guidance, support, and many Travel Tips shared from the trenches!
Our experiences, Dr. Brogan argues, aren't problems or pathologies; they reflect what we need to accept, acknowledge, and transform in order to truly become who we are. Own Your Self is a journey of healing, and also something more: a journey of coming home to ourselves.

Thank You
A much needed change of approach and attitude towards the treatment of mental health. This book is also so valuable for general personal development. I really love the section on parenting, so needed in the world today. Nicely read. totallt recommended.

Get Real, Get Well, Get Free
Whilst critical psychiatry is a crucial body of work, what do you do when the drugs don’t work and there is seemingly no real alternative? Enter, Dr. Kelly Brogan. If you’ve been on psych meds you’ve probably already had the feeling that they are not ‘fixing’ anything that is wrong with you, otherwise wouldn’t you be feeling a bit more whole, a bit more joyful? From my personal experience it’s been evident that these medications were only ever bandaging over difficult emotions, leaving me in a bleak arena where I could neither laugh nor cry (at best). You may have been lead to believe that that is really the best that you can hope for in this life. Dr. Kelly Brogan holds a very different expectation for her patients, course participants and her readers. She sets the bar high, because she knows what is possible for each and every one of us. Through deceptively simple lifestyle changes, faith, a community of like minds and not to mention a certain level of courage (or sheer desperation) to propel you into a new story of your life you will begin to see what is possible for you too. I have found this book to be one of hope and possibility and it reinforces a belief in me that I can heal, I will heal, and so will you. It tells a more beautiful story of what it means to struggle and where it can take you if you only let it. The book is overflowing with information and resources to call upon as you traverse your darkest hours and Kelly has been exceedingly generous in taking all she has learnt both professionally and in her private life and sharing it with her readers. There are for sure some hard truths, but it is only in service of reaching your highest potential. I will be forever grateful to have found this woman’s work. So Get Real, Get Well and Get Free, your ROI will be nothing short of priceless!

Identified and share a lot dark night well
there are some parts I don't agree with like the yoga and witchcraft like tips. in the end when the author acknowledged her coven, I wonder what I had listened to. But all the experiences and sharing were very much useful

Geared towards those on meds
I didn’t realise this was geared towards those who are on medication and helping them to wean off of it. For me I’m medication free and already have practiced many of the suggestions in the book for many years now, however, if you are new to them then this book would we great.
