Summary

What if going back was the only way of going forward?

Rocked by a terrible accident, homeless Kelly needs to escape the cold streets of Glasgow. Maybe she doesn’t believe in serendipity, but a rare moment of kindness and a lost ring conspire to call her home. As Kelly vows to reunite the ring with its owner, she must return to the small town she fled so many years ago.

On her journey from Glasgow to the south-west tip of Scotland, Kelly encounters ancient pilgrim routes, hostile humans, hippies, book lovers and a friendly dog, as memories stir and the people she thought she’d left behind forever move closer with every step.

Great story, fantastic narration

It took me a little while to get into the story, but now it’s ended, I wish there was more. The writer’s portrayal of life on the streets is beautifully executed and heartbreaking. She covers such an important issue with humour and sensitivity and I like the was the writing and language become more focused and eloquent as Kelly sobers up throughout the book. A truly worthwhile listen.

Raw, Real, Riveting

Loved the gifted use of language and the gritty story. Appreciated that there was no big bow tied at the end. Enjoyed the history of Scotland and the interesting and challenging story lines including a well known Glasgow incident. Genius Campbell who never fails to entertain.

Mmmmm

Overall not a bad story and I liked the narration but there were a few things I found disappointing and unrealistic which I can’t go into here because they would be spoilers.

Gripping, heart rending - an excellent listen

From beginning to end, Paper Cup had me hooked. A brilliant story of intertwined lives and the difference made by small acts of kindness or thoughtlessness. Caroline Guthrie’s wonderful narration brought the book to life.

Brilliant narrator

I felt for Kelly. It gave me some insight into how easily someone can stray off their path. The relationship between Kelly and her wee dug was gorgeous.

Beautiful poetic and heart achingly brilliant story. And so perfectly narrated too. Loved the premise and following the heroines journey through her tortured life’s experiences.

Story of grit and redemption

I loved Kelly and her story of how fragile life’s certainties can be. Of the challenges of this life, of folk too quick to judge (all of us methinks) and of love and friendship through the darkest and dirtiest of times. I live in Gatehouse Of Fleet so this story was very close to home! I thought the picture painted of Galloway was so accurate. All it’s beauty and the hidden poverty. The empty fields and the stunning coastline. I highly recommend 😊
