Summary

A world destroyed. An axe to grind. A path to infinite power. Welcome to my reality.

When the cultivators came to Earth, they destroyed our entire civilization in a matter of hours. Armies fell, cities burned, and that was before the moon turned red and filled our world with monsters.

Now, over a decade later, what's left of humanity slaves under the heels of our Qi-infused masters. The luckiest of us might even become one of them, they say—if we serve the Dynasty well enough and harness the power of Qi.

But I want none of that.

I'm sick of serving, and I want nothing to do with their world. Instead, I want them to pay for what they did to mine. Maybe that's why she found me: the fearsome, angry goddess who showed me a different path. Apparently, Qi is not the only route to power.

Now I'll fight to take back my planet, to grow strong enough to beat the cultivators at their own game. Through the power of blood, rage, and pain, I will free humanity or die trying.

For that's the Path of a Berserker.

Path of the Berserker is a progression fantasy novel that contains immortal cultivators, an oppressive intergalactic dynasty, rage-inducing imperial bureaucracy, magical spirit beasts, fantastical martial arts, and one pissed-off MC who's sick of it all. Fans of Western-style cultivation fantasy, post-apocalypse, and xianxia should enjoy.

The progression was really fun

Overall I loved this audiobook the story really balanced the emotional scenes from the funny and interesting scenes and it made it a really great listen. The one thing that got a little annoying was the accents for the Yi people it was hard to differentiate between whether it was a man or woman character but it was really good in some places so it’s only a nitpick really. 8.5/10

slow but good

the main premiss of this book is pissing you off so you feel good when mc kills them all. the main weakness of the book is two fold, it takes a while before it manages to actually instil real anger into you (since killing a family we never get a chance to meet isnt all that range inducing) but it does manage it eventually. the second is that the book takes its time getting the protag to be strong enough to actually do the deed. other books with op mc's do what this book does in 28 hours in single scenes, so i have to mark it down for a lack of efficiency. that said their is something to be said for the feeling of truly earning the feeling of wiping scum off the earth. my favourite part of this book is the feeling that the mc is a ticking time bomb who is carefully lining up dominos all through the book until he's ready to make all the scheming cultivators know exactly what they are dealing with, and its very satisfying in that way. the women in the story throw themselves at protag a bit to much for my taste, feels out of place imo, but its brief and only uses fade to black cuts when the sex happens so i can ignore it.
the VA is good, i feel a little like hes trying to seduce me with how he narrates stuff, but his range is good and he does this neat trick where he changes his tone to match the events happening at the time, like speaking sullen when things are sad and almost yelling when the action is in full swing, makes it feel like he's really trying to make it sound impactful which is good, even if he does make half the women sound like Edna from Incredibles. ultimately its perfectly adequate for this story.
