Una raccolta di alcune tra le più belle e significative liriche di Mario Luzi, uno dei più importanti poeti italiani del '900. La poetica di Luzi è estremamente coerente e chiara sin dagli esordi. Lontano dall'idea di una poesia di negazione e di rifiuto, per il poeta un concetto fondamentale è la "naturalezza", intesa come opposizione agli eccessi intellettualistici e ritorno alla realtà, alla capacità di 'nominare' le cose. Temi cari all'autore sono poi il senso di religiosità, sempre problematico e inteso come senso di appartenenza al mondo, e la femminilità, presente in tutte le accezioni e per questo nominata da Luzi "muliebrità".
